why it doesn't work?

we shoot with RED, 4k, 3k, 2k.
we convert the r3d files in redrushes to avid dnx 1920*1080
we import to avid
we export xml
open cinexml
go back to redcine
"Load all" and select the symlink folder that cineXML generates - works
"Open" and select the XML from cineXML - doesn't work
what's wrong? does anyone use this workflaw? what can we do wrong?
an idea...
I noticed that in redrushes when I export to avid dnx, I dont get the r3d file name, I get the r3d folder name.
r3d file name ends with_001, folder name there is no _001
what I get after conversion in redrushes is dnx file with the r3d folder name.
is that o'k?
Glik.

The _001 and _002 and so on is segments/chunks that make up the actual r3d clip. The name in RedRushes is correct.

Just checking: You did use the ALE for import, right? Otherwise all the clips will start with the same timecode and the handles will be incorrect for the footage in Redcine.

yes, I export the ALE from redrushes, and used it in avid for batch import.

Do you get any error messages in Redcine?

If you want to you can send me the XML from both FilmScribe and cineXML to
info (at) avocoda (dot) com and I will try to find out what the problem is. Please zip the files before you send them.

Hi, I will send you the files later today, thanks for helping.
Is there another red user, who can tell me from his own experience, that this workflow actually works for him? constantly?
Thanks,
Glik.

another thing...
Does it matter if I do the export ALE from red rushes before or after the clips conversion in the red rushes?

I did a test with 3 shots, and it's working !!
I found out what's the problem.
In the beginning, when you export ALE from RED RUSHES...
there is a V you must mark in RED RUSHES before the export.
V no resolution ext
It is in QT wrappers - option - no resolution ext

this V doesn't effect the dnx files, it effects the ALE file only
If you don't mark it, the files in the avid will have different name, _H in the end - NOT GOOD.

so... I really hope it will work also with a much complicated work, more the 3 shots, 3 cuts...
I will try soon to go back to REDcine with a video clip that we edited in avid.
Thanks
Glik.

Great that you got it to work!

We will update the application soon to allow for larger timelines.
Redcine goes nuts when too much footage is loaded at once.
The update will have an option to subdivide the timeline into separate XMLs with corresponding folders.
