I am looking for an alternative method of mounting the EVF, especially for handheld work.

I am using a selfbuilt shoulder pad similar to the ALLSTAR one plus RED handles and want to avoid the element technica mount due to a very tight budget. I am looking for a clever manfrotto or similar solution, browsed a bit through the boards but couldn't find anything definite.

So please share your secret 200 USD perfect EVF mount :)

anyone used this: http://store.zacuto.com/zred-mount-kit.html and could share their experience?

regards, Xax

Hi,

I am getting one specially machined by a local precision engineering place. Piece of cake. I went out and he designed it after he had seen the camera and the EVF. It will cost approx. $400 AUD.

I have the Zred. It is pretty good, and a whole lot cheaper than other solutions. They are also coming out with a better one, so you may want to hold off a week or so--it pans away from the RED body.

I got a Noga for only $160 at Band Pro and they can do way more positions then anything else and are rock solid, they will not move at all. For me it works way better on the ET Mantis then the ET EVF Mount. Here's a few pics of it. I love everything ET but this can do more for a lot less.

I have the zacuto EVF mount. The product is great for the price. I thought of placing the EVF on the top rails but the position was too high with combined use of allstar shoulder mount. Luckily, I managed to put the EVF on the left rod of Longvalley equipment's 15mm Lightweight support.

This setup worked out very well for me but honestly, I would rather use the 7 inch monitor instead of the EVF. I need a quick solution to shoot handheld from tripod and at the moment, I have to reconfigure so much stuff in order to switch back and forth. I am eventually going to use 19mm studio setup with Redrock mattbox and arri 19mm baseplate. Hence, the EVF will end up being in an awkward position (too low in this case)... Many people here might disagree with what I say, but in my experience the EVF is just too big to position for a handheld use. The new ET mantis is looking very good and I would have definitely purchased it if it was $1000. But when I saw couple of the photos that people have uploaded, even with that setup, it seems the EVF is too high and sticks out too much to the left when in use with the ET EVF mount... Also it seems it is very difficult to use the EVF in conjuntion with the followfocus and mattebox. I mean seriously, have anyone seen any setup with a mattebox, followfocus, and EVF(using right eye and in a comfortable viewing position) together? By the way, on the photos, the battery is on top rails but usually, I use a belt attachment so the camera won't become top heavy.

Your best bet for an inexpensive solution is two Noga arms or two Red arms one at the front of the EVF and one at the back. Its very solid with this set up. A 5 inch and 7 inch arm seems to be the most versitatile.

I also have a Ronford EVF mount which is very good and solid.

Hi Dave

How much does it weigh, and how much does it cost?

Thanks.

Cool, you have the infamous Plagiary mount.

Have you compared it to the Element Technica mount? Any pics of the mount on your Red?

we built one very inexpensively today:

from

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...gen_Imaging_014_14_014_14_Rapid_Adapter_.html - $10.95

mounted at the top mount, using

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/124750-REG/Avenger_E250_E250_Long_Double_Stud.html - $4.95

to

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ..._Imaging_143BKT_2933_Camera_Platform_for.html - $13.95

and on that I have the correct screw for the EVF

so for under $30 I have a EVF mount which is similar to the Element Technica which costs roughly 40 times less.

Try it! it's really nice, keeps the horizontal line, you can move it up, down, and forward and backwards, it's really nice for handheld also.
