  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Book of Eli...

Pretty great considering we still don't know exactly what we are doing... :-)

Please - no false modesty... I think you deserve full credit for what you've accomplished so far. Well done!

Congrats. To me, the fact that any large budget movie would use RED is a true testament to how great the camera is.

9 months ago I rented a PL lens and the local rental guys proceeded to tell me RED wouldn't replace a 435. Fair enough. He even went on to explain to me why RED sucked though it was clear to me he didn't have a clue what he was talking about. 2 months ago the same guy told me they hadn't rented their 435 in 4 months but they were renting their lenses all the time. They were going out on RED shoots. They since ordered multiple REDs.

There are still some guys out there poo pooing RED. They're just making themselves look stupid at this point.

The EXACT same kind of response happened in the printing industry about 20 years ago when the Macintosh redefined the industry. Then came the digital camera and film was an afterthought in production of printed materials. They are slamming the Red because they are afraid of the change that is taking place right before their very eyes and are unwilling to accept it is the future. It's not wise or prudent to be the guy who manufactures buggy whips saying the car is just a toy and a fad.

Oh, and congratulations Jim and the rest of the Bomb Squad. Keep it coming!

Jim I hope you had a chance to see the side by side tests Don Burgess shot with RED One and 35mm. They took it all the way through IP/IN release print and I thought it was a great test.
I know Ted saw it but am not sure if Farhat got the test to Lake Forest.

I have not yet... but hope to soon. I understand the side by side comparison was very interesting and held a few surprises.

I believe shooting begins sooner rather than later (this year not next) and they are using RED ONEs. Sorry for any confusion.

Jim

I've been following the Book of Eli for awhile. Can't wait to see it. Congrats Red.

Having just left the RED facility and watching a new (star studded) RED reel projected in 4k...lets just say the sky is truly the limit. Congrats Jim and RED.

I think the sky looks pretty great in RED footage...
:shifty:

Wait time-out... he said Red Digital Cinema Camera..
You didn't say, RED One/1, but a digital cinema camera

Hmm....

Jim?

The Red camera product line consists of Red One, Epic, And Scarlet.

A lot goes on around here, it may have been easy for you to miss... :usd:

FYI Gary Whitta the writer of Book of Eli is also writing Akira, which is to be directed by Reduser Ruari Robinson. Another film which I am looking forward to.

Yes Don Burgess is the DOP. They start photography in February. They are using RED Ones. The directors are the Hughes Brothers. Albert Hughes has been testing a Red One for a few months.

I am sure Jim that you will want to visit them in New Mexico, yes?

Peter

I'll absolutely go on set... if they let me.

Jim
