been trying to figure this out for awhile

the previous editor for some reason turned a lot of the footage into multiclips so I've been editing with those.

but seems as though Crimson and clipfinder have problems with multiclips - so..

I collapse all of them, but the xml export still labels them as multiclips. Also, just to test, if I export an xml from FCP and re-import, it can't reconnect with the original footage. it says the media files are missing.

also, there's slo-mo and still frames in the sequence, but I don't think this is the issue since I've worked with other sequences that export xml fine with slomo.

anyone else ever troubleshoot this multiclip issue?

thanks

Gary,

Based on the XML I have seen from you, I do not currently believe that there is an issue with either Crimson or Clipfinder.

If FCP cannot correctly import the unmodified XML, than there must be something wrong with either the internal project structure or with the export.
One thing I noticed, for instance, is that there are multiple pathurl tags for the same masterclipid. This seems rather odd.

I have just done a brief experiment where I created a multiclip from several Quicktime reference files (proxies) and I have not had any problems exporting and re-importing the sequence. This seems to indicate that there is not generally a problem with multiclips and XML-import/export.

It would probably help to know more about exactly what the previous editor did to create this sequence. Did he only use FCP, for instance, or did he use any other tools for "massaging" or conforming the project ?
Is there any way you can find out ?

thanks for all your help thus far. It helps to know that it's not a general issue with using multiclips.

From what I can tell, it looks like the previous editor used FCP to create multiclips for switching between A and B cameras.. but I have no idea why they did it for footage that had only one camera. I was thinking to marry it with the sound but that doesn't make sense..

I'll try to find out more info.

IIRC, there is an option buried somewhere to go back to the original clips... I'll check it out...

i figured out a workaround by using FCP's media manager to create a new project and unchecking the "retain multiclip" box.

some clips connected to the wrong media though which shows that something's wrong with where fcp was pointing to on some of the clips.. not sure how that happened.
