January 16th Start Date Time

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to give you all a heads up that we will be revealing all the requirements of the first 4K Challenge on Friday January 16th, 2009 at 9:00am PST.

Any Hawaii, Oahu based teams here? If someone is looking for sound crew participation, I may be up for joining a team.

update: "4K Challenge Red Carpet Event" (heh..heh..heh Red Carpet)

We will be screening all the 4K Challenge entries at the Downtown Independent in LA at 5pm on Jan 31st.

You can find their address on their website below.

http://www.downtownindependent.com

Myself and Mike will be there as well as many others Judges and sponsors likewise, Hope to see you there. There are a little over 200 seats. They will be screened in 2K, so come check it out. Stay for the after party, more details on that coming soon! Hope to see you all there.

I want to also thank the Downtown Independent for having us and sponsoring the event!

Quick question, we output our final short to Vuze in 720p, after this, do we have to export a 2K or 4K master to Darren or Mike for the screening?

Yes, a 2K version for screening. Details on the format will be posted shortly. We really want to screen your material the best it can be screened. We are also allowing you to do more tweaks to the grading for the screening. Obviously if you finishing for 720P vs 2K there are some details you might want to take care of.

Hey guys, we are trying to see how we can manage to participate in this contest, since this is a rather busy week for us. Nevertheless, this is the first time we participate in this kind of competition. This is far from our first film, however, working with this kind of constraint is rather new for us.

I was wondering how "constrained" will it be? Is this realistic to decide your characters and location before friday?

When you say the log line will be disclosed on friday, will it be something as precise as:

"Discovering that her husband is cheating her, a women decide to take revenge..." (I know, what an original concept, I'm very proud... :shiftyph34r: )

Does shooting in only one location be realistic (artistic challenge aside...)? Like, is there a possibility that the log line will imply two or more locations?

I guess, what I'm really asking is, what's your plan?

Thanks,

Hi Dominique,

I appreciate your concern and understand that I can't fully answer your question in detail as revealing the logline, and props etc is not going to happen until Friday. However, what I can tell you is that you will have choices, and what we give you to choose from should not affect your story too much. You should be able to start planning your story NOW and be prepared to incorporate what we give to you
Understand, part of this particular competition is thinking on your toes and adapting to what's been given to you within a limited time frame. Don't worry, we think everyone will be more than capable of adapting to our plan when we reveal it on January 16th at 9am PST right here!
Any other questions, feel free to ask and I'll answer as best I can :-)

Although, you might want to start looking for a spider monkey......

Just joking, Mike and I made sure to designed things that would not force anyone in to a position where it would not allow a person anywhere they may be to be able to easily get access to what they need, prop wise. Log lines well, should will give a push in a direction but again nothing to stop you from having a fair amount of control so start doing prep work. Having more options would be a good idea then just pick out what you feel is best the day of as far as actors and locations and such goes. Thats about all I can say.....

LOL... If you're in my situation, it's not even realistic to plan which cast and crew members will actually show up! As long as I don't have to dress the key grip in drag for a female role, I think it'll be alright. Who knows, maybe that would work too...

I guess, what I'm really asking is, what's your plan?

We'll know on friday. :usd:

Hi,
but can we choose the genre or do you give us a genre? Is there a genre? :w00t:

Lol, I get you! I've done my share of planning no-pay shorts and had to deal with all sort of situation, like the main actress letting us down... 24 hours before starting to shoot.

Anyway, I guess it is part of the fun...
