  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone seen the Gangs of New York Blu-ray?

I really loved the cinematography and art direction in Gangs of New York, but most of the reviews I have read of the Blu-ray version say that it butchers the original picture. Have any of you guys seen it, and if so waht do you think? I guess I really don't have a choice if I want to see it again.

I'm afraid the rumors are true. Based on these screen cap comparisons, I'd agree that it was a butchered transfer, and I'd definitely hold off and hope for a remaster.

Thanks for the screencaps Craig. The second pair aren't loading in Firefox or preview. Do you have other versions of them. But from the first pair it does seem to be a pretty bad transfer. The snow just looks awful. I saw Gangs of New York about five times in the theatres and every time I was struck by how beautiful that opening scene was. Either my nostalgia has completely glossed the film's visuals or that transfer isn't doing the opening scene justice. I'm guessing the latter.
