 are the 4 inputs audio is separated in RED, what's the audio format?
how to monitor the audio when the record in RED with a recorder, is TA 5 audio output ?

I have this... fostex fr-2 , 416mic, audio245 mixer, so how to link the RED, is it need mini xlr convert to xlr ? how to send a 1khz tone to RED and monitor the return.. which time code is need to chose.

many thanx...

hi Blacker,
The 4 audio channels are separate they get recorded into the R3D file as uncompressed 24 bit 48k sample rate. I don't know your mixer (the name wasn't coming up on Google) but you can feed channels line level from you mixer to as many tracks as you want.

You do need the Mini to standard XLR cables if the camera is newer or updated with the new audio board you need a standard mini to xlr. If it is a camera with the older audio board there are some special RED made cables you need to use. the owner/renter of the camera should have the correct cables.

Lets see what else... you can feed a 1K tone at +4 (line level) to the camera in recent tests a -20 dBFS signal goes a ways into the yellow. for On build 18 (beta) it is different I will be showing some info on that soon. Don't be afraid to let the levels to go into the yellows on build 17, really. I usually monitor from the headphone out I have a 2 XLR snake cable with a headphone return to my mixer. I use a 302 Sound Devices and it has a return input and I switch from the camera and mix feeds. You may need to adjust the headphone level so it matches your mixer phones. If you are on build 17 or higher make sure the menu in the AV menus that audio is on 0db and not 10 db which would be for unbalanced line input (-10db)

I know some people have been making the TA5 audio out cables I believe the pin outs are in the OPS manual of the camera available on the red.com/suport page. I don't know where you are located but I know Coffey Sound in L.A. is big on RED camera audio maybe they can help you with that if needed.

Hope that helps, please spend some time with the camera and your audio gear ahead of time if possible to run tests and get a feel for what works. I am not sure if your Fostex has the optional TC card but that might be helpful in keeping things in sync but feeding reference to the camera as well as recording to your deck will give you a back-up to your dual system recording.
