Apologies if this has been covered here... I searched but wasn't able to come up with anything. So here goes...

The scene:

Was shooting a scene with two actors sitting near an open front cafe that looked out onto the street. The actors were catching direct sunlight, cutting them out nicely against a heavily shadowed or essentially black cafe interior... people walking by and traffic and taxi's passing in front of the cafe cutting across the frame gave it some movement.

The issue:
Viewing the LCD monitor everything looked fine... but when I was reviewing the scene on the EVF - I noticed lots of swimming green and red noise in the heavy shadow area behind the actors - in the darkened cafe background. In fact any area that was heavily shadowed show this type of noise.

It didn't show up on the LCD and it also didn't show up in the final footage when taken off the drive and viewed on the Mac.

Is this just inherent in the RED EVF?
Is there some issue with how the EVF deals with high contrast scenes?

I've noticed it in several other set ups with similar high contrast ratios as well.

It didn't effect the final footage but just got me to wondering if it can be changed or fixed either with the EVF or with some adjustment on the RED itself?

Any input is appreciated.

cheers,
Luc

Next time try disconnecting and connecting the EVF.

Probably. I've had the same issue and it was fixed by removing and reconnecting the cable.

Yes this have been on topic on sevral threads, but no feedback from red so far. I have this very often on my cam, and just unplug and re-plug fixes the problem. No bad cables or bad lemo, just happans anyway.

Just like with any other technical support issue, just file an incident ticket on www.red.com/support and one of our tech support reps will get back to you.

Of course, each case is different, but this type of issue usually requires the EVF to come back to RED for eval.
