I just inform myself about what kind of lenses are on the market right now.
Since I've got a Canon Eos 40D and some lenses for it I think I'll use Scarlet 3K with Eos mount.

I didn't find something satisfying to me yet.
Maybe you guys know something interesting.

I will need a Zoom-lens with let's say about 16mm to 40mm but with at least 2.8, better with 1.4f aperture. I was wondering why I couldn't find anything yet, do you know any lenses I might have missed? (It can also be 1.4f-2.8f or 1.4-4f something like this)

Regards
Mathias

The Canon 16-35mm f2.8 is a very popular lens. You should be able to find plenty of information about it on still camera forums like dpreview.

You'll not find a 35mm zoom with anything like f/1.4. Only one or two Olly 4/3 go to f/2.0 and they're limited.

You're going to have to go to primes to get f/1.4. Remember: as you add features, something must be compromised... it's true in lenses, cameras, kitchen appliances, printers...

Thanks to you for the answers.

What do these primes cost? Do you maybe have a link or a hint on what I have to search for (in google)?

I just checked Warehouse Express www.warehouseexpress.com and the cheapest fast canon prime is the 50mm f/1.4 at £220, the f/1.2 is £960.
Going shorter there is a 35 1.4 at £850 or so, and a 28 1.8 at £250-ish. There's no 28 1.4, but there is a 24 1.4 at £860 or so, that's about the shortest fast lens.
Going longer there is a 85 1.8 at the £250 mark or the 85 1.2 at £1350-ish. The 135 2.0 come in at £660 (I've got one, it's fabulous!) and the 200 2.0 is getting on for £3000.
Zeiss do a Canon fit 50 1.4 at about double the cost of the Canon one, and a 85 1.4 at about £900.
Hope this helps.
Dave

BTW with the exchange rate as it is, you can read these as Euro prices too!

I've bought all of my primes from the US (I live in the UK)...

Luckily, before the £ became crappy (mwahahaha)

Anything below f2.8 is decent to tell you the truth.

Check out eBay and B&H, they sell primes for good prices, I think the 50mm f1.4 is about $250 on B&H.
