  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mac OSX 10.5.6 update

You probably found out from other threads, but it is not safe for RAID equipped environment. It seems Apple did something with the directory architecture.

Some have reported it cancels out RAID card but doesn't affect data at least, some ppl say it works fine. Haven't tried myself, but it seems only ppl with RAID card by apple are pissed. Caldigit setups are workin fine as far i am hearin.

In my case, running metaSAN (and ATTO Celerity) with Infotrend RAID, if I use two machines with 10.5.6 then the client won't be able to read or write, but if the client is 10.5.5 and older then it's working fine.

For update, people with Areca RAID card can update their driver to support 10.5.6 now.

Bob,

Apple has to support their own RAID well :). Problems happened with the third party RAID cards. Areca has posted the fix.

Tiger Technology has updated their metaSAN to support 10.5.6.

We got the updates installed for metaSAN to support 10.5.6 and it's working fine.

Any one has an update on g-technology raids and osx 10.5.6????

For which product? I think their high-end models use ATTO, eSATA models uses silicon image chip (which the raid mode on the chip has been not supporting since 10.5.4) and G-Raid with the same chip in the box.

I am working with the g-speed XL (raid 0) connected via fiber channel and the g speed ES (raid 5) via e-sata.

Can I install the 10.5.6?

Thanks.

Fiber one is I guess ATTO card and we don't hear any problem with Celerity and 10.5.6. In fast when I connected the Infotrend Fiber RAID to Celerity and running 10.5.6, I had no problem.

eSATA version is seems to come with Silicon Image chip on the PCI-e card and probably separate control chip in the box to provide RAID5, so you should contact g-tech to find out. I know that sonnet or Caldigit eSATA boards using Silicon Image chip without raid function are working okay with me on 10.5.6, but the PCIe board with RAID 5 function doesn't work with later OSX versions (not even with 10.5.5).

Since G-Technology doesn't make things clear on their website, you should email or call them to make sure.
