  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mark Roberts Motion Control Head and Red

Hi Ryan,
nice to see you posting here.
This little head and its price point is very interesting. Could you please tell a bit more about focus control and tracks. Are the tracks moco too? Is the lift a option too? What is the difference about servo or geared motors in the SFH 30?
Thank you,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Good to hear from you, I hope you are settling well in France.

There are in fact many different focus and track options. One of the lowest cost is a basic motor with minimal gearing and a 15 or 19mm clamp for mounting to matt bars. This works well for free moving lenses.
These start at about £700. If the lens you are looking to use is quite hard to turn (as we have found with older lenses or some of the new type of RED specific lenses) then it may need additional gearing. SLR cameras on the other hand often have lenses without gear teeth and in that case we have to add gears to them.

As regards track we can cater to different requirements. Yes the track is moco too. These vary between fixed length systems, low cost systems for timelapse/animation only, extendable systems, ultra-portable super lightweight systems, heavier rigid systems to be able to span between two supports, extendable systems, high speed systems and so on. Everyone has a different requirement. If you tell me what you need then we can suggest suitable solutions. Typically to add track you are looking at spending anything from £3,000 to £15,000+ depending on what you need and how much of it.

As regards lift, it is possible to add lift but it depends greatly on how much lift you need and what kind of motion you are doing with it and if it is going on track as well. These all vary the design.

The standard SFH-30 has Stepper motors. This keeps the cost low and generally requires less electronics to work. The advantage with using servos in such a small head is generally negligible. Some of our existing customers would want servos because then it works easily with all their existing kit and cabling. Servos when stationary and with a perfectly balanced load, in theory use little or no power but similar results can be achieved with the modern steppers if it known the load will always be balanced.

Also servos can be slightly quieter than steppers but exact figures are not known.

Hope that answers your questions. Let me know if you have anymore.

Best Regards,

SFH-30 head

Hello Ryan,

Would like to ask how much the price for this UNIT SFH-30 head. Thank you. And if there is an available agent here in kuwat?

Hi Abdul-Aziz,

The head is £5,000. We do not have an agent in Kuwait, however you can order the head directly through us.

Please tell me a little bit more about what you do and what you intend on using the head for.

Thank you.

Thank you Ryan,
no more questions at the moment.
Things are moving on here, but it still takes some more months to finish my little studio ( I´m working to get the house finished first:cold: until spring).
Merry Christmas!

Marc
