Hey all,

I need some thoughts here about combining footage from different cameras. Our A camera is our Red One, and our B camera looks to be a Sony HVX 1080P (according to our DP) with Leitus adapter and cine primes.

I don't know how I feel about mixing these to together especially for a pitch package, but I'd like to get some other opinions from people that might know more about our B camera.

Thanks

Do you really have to go to hell ?
What did you do to deserve such a punishment ?!

CONTRAST of the two will be so different, texture of image too,

To to edit the two together you might spend more in postprod
than what you saved at filming time...

Try to avoid that but if you are FORCED to use such a crazy combination,
keep A for wide and B closeup only,

GOOD WORK

It might actually match better without the DOF adapter. What do you guys think?

In any case, the output better not be more than standard def.

David,

Get a second Red for the days you need a B camera!

I am not sure what camera you are talking about for your B cam. There is no Sony HVX 1080p. Panasonic makes the HVX and it is only 720p upscaled to 1080p. Sony makes other 1080p cameras.

Either way you would need to match your Red footage to your B cam footage. You have much more control to push your Red footage to match what you get from your B cam.

Contast and color and resolution will all be very different between the camera. If you cut between the two cameras in a scene it will be very noticeable unless your final output is YouTube. Then it should be fine.

The Sony EX1 could be used, there was a comparison a few months ago here by Mcgregor.

Dustin...that's what I told our director. I had to laugh when I looked, cause I didn't know of any camera like that either. We're shooting Red and Red only. To be honest, I needed some outside views to show to the Director so I didn't feel like I was tearing down the DP with my own prejudices.

David, I've seen Sony EX1 footage matched quite well to Red One footage. The HVX is another matter though (image is too soft and colours are too warm/saturated to be matched easily).

Obviously if you can convince them to run a second R1 that makes far more sense for a 2-camera setup, but if that's out of the budget, the EX1 or EX3 would be your best bet.
