:detective2: I have I dilema I'll be taking delivery of my RED in january, So Im currently shopping for accesories.
We Got a I've been Using a friends camera and I have to say Im far from Im pressed with the RED monitors and EVF.
I would Like to know if I can USe any other monitor on it or are there any other EVF options.
Also will the HDSDI and the HDMI on the camera work while shooting now or will the only work in Playback?
Thanks for the help!!!

You can use any HDSDI or HDMI monitor, but I doubt very much you're going to find a better EVF. It's pretty heavy, but once you adjust the diopter correctly, it's really sharp and helpful. I'm also not sure what you don't like about the LCD monitors, but they have the advantage of being extremely light, as well as having user programmable buttons.

Believe me, The LCD is the cheapest and best option you will find, All the other HD-SDi Monitors are too heavy as an Onboard Monitor. The AStro is the lightest, but not the greatest. THe PAnasonic 8.4" is great but really heavy, plus you will need to carry a block battery for it because if you power it from the camera your Red BRicks will last An hour or less.

Or you can use The Anton Bauer Battery Blocks and power the Monitor from the 4-pin LEMO from the back of the camera, once you get the cable made.

Also bear in mind that all HDSDI monitors and many HDMI ones will not show the histograms and menus. You really do need at least one RED monitor.

HP w2408H works reasonably well, tho it's certainly larger than you might want.

the big feature is the price.

its 1920 X 1200, which does not accept the signal when attempting to playback 1080

Huh?

Huh?

Really? Compared to an optical finder any EVF is something of a compromise but the RED monitor offerings are, IMHO, state of the art. Just saw the 7" LCD yesterday and IMHO it has just as nice an image as the 8.4" Panny without the massive weight penalty.

BTW the HDSDI and HDMI are active at all times.
