Hi there,

I'm trying to buy some used lens to start with RED and I have some question...

1) is Arri Bayonet and Arri standard the same?
2) there are some FAQ about mount adapters?
3) where a good place to buy adapters?
4) To place an adapter is only for skilled guy or also for smart and learning fast people? ;-)

Thanx!

Bayo-PL lens adapters are available from Focus Optics or Visual Products. They are very easy to use, you should have no problem mounting them on your lenses.

No. Different, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lens_mount
2) there are some FAQ about mount adapters?
You will find many info on the internet
3) where a good place to buy adapters?

I would give it to a skilled technician.
Les Bosher, Cinematechnic (but I haven't seen his web site on line recently) and there is another place in CA calls Ducloise or something similar.
You are welcome.

GDV, I hate to be nit-picky...
But Arri standard mount and Arri B mount are slightly different, but make a huge difference.
An Arri B (bayonet) mount has two small tabs (bayonets) 180 degrees apart, at the rear of the mount. Whereas the Arri standard mount is similar, but does not have any tabs.
The only reason I felt compelled to correct you is that if this guy buys an adaptor, it needs to be for the right mount. Many B-PL adaptors will not work on some Arri standard mount lenses.
And lastly, it's spelled Duclos Lenses. No worries.

Oops... sorry. I misread your post GDV. I thought it said "No different".
Apologies my friend. Continue to share the knowledge.

That's OK. I thought that the little dot after the No might not be noticed.
Anyhow, sorry for misspelling your name. I was referring to you as one of the skilled technician.
Also it is important to note that when holding the back of the mount the focus rotate freely otherwise when the lens will mounted there will be no way to pull focus.

ok thanks more clear for me now!

so there are adaptor that works for both B and standard like this:

Yes. This should work.
However, the housing of the lens is relative small, so pulling focus may not be easy.
On the other hand there are some lenses, like Zeiss, which has great optics.
You can rehouse them and end up with a very nice lens.
The lens maybe cheap but rehousing will be expensive.
