I know this has been discussed before but I'm racking by brain on this. I LOVE the FCP/R3D/COLOR workflow and it works flawlessly for me except for one thing. When I send the color corrected version back to FCP it appears about a stop too dark. It also looks this way in Quicktime Player. If I knock the Gamma back to 1.8 in Quicktime it looks like the best color version in Color at 2.2 Gamma. WTF?

For the appearance in QT player, you have to go to the preference and select the match gamma to FCP radio button.

Also, in FCP, you'd have to keep track with the format (wether you're working on RGB or YUV) and make the right choices. Check in on your timeline setup, then see the rendering quality which should match the format you are working with. When that is not set right, makes the still darker, but gets brighter when you playback. Similar thing happens in Color, too, so give it a time to look in to the setup and preference tabs in Color, make sure you have the right choices.

I have this issue as well. Is there a workaround? - Does it look like this when I render out to ProRes and then to HDCAM?

Me too. But after many tests and final renderings, my (say HD 1080) output file always looks perfect. I used to overexpose my rushes in Redcine because they looked sooo dark in FCP, but when I rendered, the .mov then looked all washed up, too bright! So now I just cut "in the dark" and my footage always looks good... I guess I got used to simply trust the Red footage when exposed properly... But any settings welcome!

I used AJA software codec to render out 10-bit 444, then send that to FCP, displaying with Blackmagic would shift the gamma, then I transcoded with media manager as BM10 bit 444 then it displays perfect.

Also suspecting resizing via open timeline is shifting the gamma display.
