What would be the best way to colour the light of a 1500w halogen floodlamp to match the typical temperature of the moon?

I was dabbling between gel (which I'm worried might melt under the heat...) or painting the glass of the lamp with some sort of heat-resistant glass paint (if such a substance exists).

Any suggestions?

Gel won't melt unless it gets extremely hot - keep it about a foot from the lamp (bubble/bulb/whatever your local term is) and you'll be fine.

You're looking for CTB - Colour Temperature Blue - as moonlight is rather blue, you might need several layers.

Cail - Many thanks for the reply.

What should I attach the gel to in order to keep it a foot away from the lamp? I will be affixing the lamp itself to a very tall tree using two Super Clamps and a Magic Arm.

Generally you can peg it to some barndoors.

Only problem is, it's one of those security floodlamps, so it doesn't have any barndoors.

Why not go rent 3 source 4 pars? For a day that would be super cheap, and they should come with gell holders, and they will put out a LOT more light than that chinese flood lamp.

Just saying.....

I would, but I'm literally using what I already have available to me...

M101, oh wait you said halogen... so that should have a green cast... film it to see how your camera will register it though. Anyway, if it is green, then you need a magenta filter also known as minus-green. But you also need to take into account the lights around it... for the effect. But if you are shooting balanced for 3200k, then you can use other tungsten lights for the rest of the set and the blue light would work well as a moonlight source.
