Hey guys, need some tech advice here. I've got some clips that are 4K 16:9 and 4K HD that I've ingested with L&T in FCP and for some reason after I throw them on the timeline in FCP and send them to Color, the 4K 16:9 clips show up as nothing in Color but red X's on the timeline, and the 4K HD clips show up correct but in both cases the "Red Room Tab" is not coming up. On a separate machine, I can get the "Red Room Tab" to show up but everything is greyed out. What am I doing wrong here? Someone else told me this workflow only works for stuff shot in 4K 2:1, is that true? If so that sucks for us guys shooting everything in 16:9! Can any of you learned scholars walk me through this whole thing step by step? I read the RED>FCP>Color whitepaper, but some of it is a tad confusing and I'm even more confused because I've got one machine doing one thing and another machine doing something else!

The RED tab in Color definitely works for 4k 16x9 and 4kHD. If the contents of the RED tab are greyed out, it implies Color thinks the footage is not REDCODE. Did you definitely have L&T set to Native rather than ProRes?

Okay, what you just told me explains one machine's problem! But the other one is a different ballgame all-together, I've tried three different file types all transcoded as native and the RED Room never shows up and the clips on the timeline in Color are big red clips with giant x's.

You probably need to install the Apple Update for Final Cut Studio 2. You can tell your mac to look for updates and the one you need is called ProApp something. I can't remember. But you need to install that FIRST, and then reinstall the L&T update from the Red website.

Hmmm....I think we're up to date on our Pro Apps stuff, could you tell me what the latest version of FCP should be reading as?
