Hey guys

Starting to purchase lenses for my company's new RED.

I'd love to get a full set of Ultra Primes, but don't quite have the budget.

I'm thinking of getting the following:

- RED 18-50
- Ultra Prime 85mm
- Ultra Prime 100mm

The RED is obviously slower than the primes, which is a little bit of a bummer.

Other than that though, do you see any problems with shooting projects on two different types of glass? Does anyone have experience shooting with a similar lens combo?

And, while we're on that subject, do you have better suggestions for a lens package? I have about $40K total to spend.

Thanks!

You could get the full set of Elite s35 Digital Primes for less than $40,000.

I've never used them, but a few people on the forum have compared them favorably to Cooke s4s, but with an extra stop... albeit a very soft extra stop.

The Optar Illuminas are coming this spring, so that won't help right now but...

These too

And the Red primes are coming at some point as well.

Just other options.

thanks guys. yeah, matching problems were my fear too.

now i'm also looking at the cooke 18-100. lots of good reviews for that...

Would $40k get you two Angenieux Rouge short zooms ?

or

there's a used nearly new 17-102 HR advertised at $13k which is also very big which would leave funds for a longer lens and may be the 18-50 for hand held or steady cam work.

Seems on the used market the bigger zooms are reasonably priced but the accessory kits to support them are also big requiring expensive filters.
