Our camera was rented out and had some issues on the field last days.
Both days at the second location camera booted but picture was black.
There were menus visible on EVF. Just like lens cap on.
I suggested to reboot without accessories and wait 15min while depowered.
After several attepts they still didn't get picture.

30min later when they arraived to our office camera worked as should.
Possibly it may be realated to weather as it is about 0 to -5 degrees Celsius outside and snowing.
Camera was on crane on the field and covered with some plastic bags.
On second day they keept Red in the warm car as long as possible before shooting.
Filled a support request on both days.

Does somebody had a similar issue?
Is there anything we can check?

I would be curious to know if record was hit while it was on the crane. If yes, it may be a monitoring path issue. If no picture captured as well as monitor, then something else.

I have personally successfully recorded in -28 degrees Celsius so I don't think that 0 to -5 should be the issue.

Zakaree: Yes, the lens were attached and no lenscap on.

Brent: It first appeared when they had installed it on crane
but later it was just handheld or on tripod.
First day there was EVF and HDMI LCD attached.
On second day EVF and 5.6" Red LCD.
In both cases menus did appear but the picture was just back.

Got an advise from Red support to reinstall firmware and use ver16.
We had ver17 b3.4.1 installed.

I'm wondering if there is something different in ver17 and ver16 software
in meaning of heat handling.

BTW. Cooling was set on Auto.

Thanks

Most likely they were just checking if it was a faulty install of B17. So, see if it works on B16 then can try reinstall of B17. I am not aware of any temperature setting differences between the two. no.

Last week on build 17 i had a simular problem after i was putting the camera from 4k to 2K 100fps in normal 21decrees Celsius.
No picture at all, the back display worked. I did a reboot and everything worked well!! and did not happen again.
Red LCD and VF where on with no image but and i could start the camera and see the time code running.

its most likely to be a build bug... the cable that brings video into the lcd/evf have wiring for camera information and senor information (aka video)

That could explain this!!

thanks

I'm having similar problems - no picture on the monitors (LVF&LCD) in spite of lens attached and lens cap removed). I installed build 16 today but the problem reoccurred in a slightly different way - no picture on the monitors (lvf&lCD)

I've also been having boot hangs and crashes but only on B17 so far.

The problem does appear to be related to shooting exteriors - temperatures here are not very cold 0 - 6 C.

We downgraded to Build 16 as Red support suggested.
Made some tests during last days in arround 0C and got horisontal stripes on both EVF and LCD.
Exactly like shown in this thread:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23335
So it seems to have one and the same issue just looks different on diffrent firmwares.
We will send our body back for tests.
