I wonder what the reason is to implement Redcode 225 as the maximum for the Epic 645?

I think Red is targeting this camera for the ones looking for the best image that can be captured on a sensor, so why limit this camera to something like 1:9 in compression ratio while the Epic 617 has 500? I haven't decided on what Epic to get, but IF Red is releasing the Epic 645 with Redcode 500, instead of 225. That feature alone, will be enough for me to fork out the additional 10K...

Red has stated that the numbers for Redcode 42/225/500 no longer directly reference the bitrate of the codec being used. So there's no saying at this point how much compression RC225 will actually put on a frame from the 645.

So... The compression might actually be higher than in red one? Or in the best case maybe Redcode 225 means 2.25:1 ? :)

Harrison is right. We don't know what these numbers mean yet. Supposedly, unlike current RC28/36 modes, the 225 and 500 are referencing some sort of quality level. It may be somewhat relational to the pixel count of the sensor too. For all we know, REDCODE 500 on the 617 may actually be more compressed than REDCODE 225 on the EPIC FF35. I guess we have to wait for RED to make sense of it all for us.

In any way , I hope we could profit from 16 cores by then , maby ad a little storage capacity, but be able to get the same performance by the newer developped codecs in adobe cs4 or 5..., continuing that kind of workflow...

If this might be a problem, and if adobe and red don't release at the same time when the new cams arive, i hope there will be the option to record in lower codecs to be able to still use the adobe sollution in the meantime.
