We have had a camera body of ours give us 2 problems which I could not figure out.

Firstly the camera stopped recording the proxy files during a roll and then started again a few clips later. So when I pulled the clips in a hand full of clips were lacking the proxy files. The settings were unchanged through the shoot and none of the ACs touched the proxy menu options.

The same camera body later on in the shoot rebooted it self during the format of a Red drive. I read in other posts about a similar problem but there was battery was half full when the reboot occurred. The camera did not recognize the drive after this, as a result I had to reformat the drive on my laptop run it back to set and format it in the camera. Only after this the drive was recognizable in camera.
More so the problem happened again during play back one of the ACs played back the clips on a drive. During play back the camera froze a black frame appeared and the camera rebooted it self. The battery was full we changed batteries and still the same problem happened. The clips were fine and on the drive when I pulled them in to check but the camera rebooting on its own account was not good to say the least!

Would appreciate advice for dealing with these problems, thanks.

Shoot with CF cards. If okay, it could be a drive problem. Use another drive. Lim

Was it build 17? There have been many reports of rebooting, and I don't think they are all battery related. Too many new cases all at the same time, including my camera, which has NEVER rebooted until build 17.

The camera is build 16 so probably not that, not sure about the CF card as I didn't experiment with that. I did try with a different drive and there was no problem so it could be a faulty drive.

I have been having problems bringing the drive up on the desktop using the FW800 port lately and have changed to using FW400 seeing as that is all that works. All the other drives I have work fine with FW800 so the drive could very well be faulty.

I say this now but realized the need for this a while ago, we need a diagnostic tool that will analyze the condition of the media red drives or CF. An application we can run on a computer with the media connected. I want to know about bad sectors or faulty ports on a drive or disabled sections on a CF. I think that would be a very useful tool for us to know when we need to replace faulty media after a problem is discovered and a head of others. Rather than get stuck with footage that needs to be downloaded from faulty media.
Is there such an application?

I have same problem with one of my drives.
It reboots camera everytime when I try to playback clips or format drive.

I'm sure it's not related to the reboot issue, but if you're having trouble with the 800 port, send the drive back to Red when it's convenient. I had one drive in three with a faulty 800 port; this after it worked fine for six months or so. I think they may have had a bad batch of FW 800 connectors at some point. That said, it's great that they thought to provide 400 and USB as alternate means of connection.
I hope the reboot issue is not a widespread Build 17 thing. I have been enjoying 17!
Cheers,
Harry

Reformat the drive, write a few files, reformat again, see if the problem goes away.

Thanks Sean PMd you back, Hi David tried that no joy, will give you a call when I'm back in Sydney.
The faulty FW800 drive is not the reboot one also the problem seamed to occur on one camera only the drive worked fine on a different body...
Thanks for the help.

Check the power connection when you have a reboot problem.

The plate & battery connection may be the issue.
