The following is listed on eBay with a minimum bid of $27,500, however, lower bids in that neighborhood will be considered from REDusers.

Zeiss 35mm Format Super Speed Lens Set in PL Mount T1.4:
18mm T1.4 Min. Focus = 10”
25mm T1.4 Min. Focus = 10”
35mm T1.4 Min. Focus = 14”
50mm T1.4 Min. Focus = 2.5’
85mm T1.4 Min. Focus = 3.5

These lenses have been cherry picked to make up this set, and are in very good condition. I am a Cinematographer, and not a lens dealer, but as an early RED One camera owner I started buying up lenses to make sure I would have enough to cover my needs. I now have more than I can use, and I don’t want to be in the rental business. I bought several sets, and only kept the cleaner lenses to make up this package.

They have had a long life and were originally sold with B-mounts. However, each lens has been converted with it’s own top quality hard mounted PL adapter. They have also had focus gears and 80mm fronts installed to make them uniformly compatible with ARRI standards. They were used on three features with excellent results, and have subsequently been tuned up by Lens Guru, Stuart Radin of Focus Optics. By way of full disclosure, I will mention slight cleaning marks on the front elements of the 25mm and 35mm, but they are minor and don’t seem to affect the picture quality. Footage markings are in feet only. This package includes an “Anvil-Style” Innerspace fitted case.

There are sample photos on eBay, but I have many more, which I can e-mail to serious buyers. Due to bad experiences I have had with export taxes, I am not interested in shipping out of the US. To the best of my knowledge, these lenses are in good working order, but they are used and sold in AS IS condition. I encourage potential buyers to make an inspection in person, and/or I will also be happy to deliver them to a lens expert in the Los Angeles area for evaluation at the Buyer’s expense. Send a PM, or better yet, e-mail me at Mathers at DigitalCinemaSociety dot ORG

Zeiss B-Speeds for Sale

Zeiss B-Speeds for Sale

Evin,
Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, these are "B-Speeds"; not an official designation, but the short hand for Zeiss Super Speed lenses than were originally manufactured with an ARRI B-Mount. From what I know, the glass is the same or compares well to the later Mark III, but they have footage scales only in feet, (not also metric), have a slightly shorter barrel for reduced focus turn, and have a different iris blade configuration, which can be an issue when stopping down past F16. Since I never get near that F-stop range in my shooting, I have not noticed any difference.

I also wanted to clarify that I am happy to make a sale to someone outside the US, I'm just hesitant to ship it. I once had the surprise of getting a hefty import/export tax applied to my FedEx account after selling and shipping to Canada. So, if you have interest, and live outside the US, please contact me to see if we can work something out.

For example, overseas buyers...

you can set up an account with FEDex (or whatever shipper) and then James can charge all shipping and customs fees to your account, that way he doesn't get stuck 5% fee on $27k worth of goods.

good luck with the sale.

I have personally used these exact lenses on 2 of the 3 features Jim mentioned in his first post with much success. Some of the best material Ive shot on the Red was through these lenses. Doing second unit, I was able to pop on a lens and know the lens would preform - even when my light meter would start throwing fits about the lack of light.

Good luck Jim!

These are great lenses.

Just keep in mind the 50mm is not replaceable, very hard to find glass.

Do not let your AC damage the back glass on that one.

I love these lenses.

Shoot me now but I think a set of B Mount Zeiss Lenses converted to PL for $27,000 is silly and bad for our cinematography integrity. Chime in if you like. Thanks.

With 5000 new Reds needing lenses Glass is gold these days!!!

I just paid $69,000 US for one zoom lens (12:1)

In my opinion it's all about the glass! Almost everyone wants good lenses!

Zeiss speeds are damb good glass!!!!

Lightly used accessories for RED One Camera:
Bottom/Balance Plate, Dovetail Shoulder Mount, Right Hand Grip, Universal Mount, 15mm Adapter, Support Rods.

Congrats on the sale James! Any chance of letting us know what they went for?

Keeping track of actual lens values has become very important on this list.

No better way than to know what the actual market allowed.

Cheers,

Sales Price for Zeiss Super Speeds

I let the Zeiss Super Speeds go for $25,00US, which I consider to be a good value, due to the high quality of this particular set. I was happy to see them go to someone I know, and I'm sure they will be quite pleased.

Hi James. The lenses sound great. Please give me an idea of price for the set. The dollar rate is killing us at moment, so hopefully my finances can stretch. All best Medzio, UK
