I just got a red camera and was wondering the best way to mount it to my Cartoni Focus head. It may seem to be an obvious answer, but I noticed others are using the Arri Dovetail and base. Do you recommend a special plate for the Cartoni head?

Also, can I use Windows to transfer footage from the Red drive to my laptop or do I need a Mac?

Thanks,

Jeremy

the simple, obvious answer is to take your quick plate from your cartoni head and screw it onto the bottom of the camera, like you would any camera. If you have the base production package, you can screw it to the bottom of the shoulder dovetail.

BTW, be SUPER careful with the camera on that tripod. It's not built to hold that amount of weight and you could find your camera in pieces on the floor if your not nearby when something goes wrong.

Looks like Brandon and Jimhare covered it... Having owned a Cartoni Focus head in the past, I can only reiterate what Brandon says. Be careful with RED on that head.

Data transfers on Windows work just fine. REDCINE works, but is still beta. But the Windows version has audio support now. RED Alert is only available for the Mac right now. Hopefully we'll see the R3D Adobe plug-in soon. Also CineForm has workflow solutions too.

Thanks. I appreciate the help. I'm planning to get the O'connor head, but will be careful with the Cartoni in the meantime. Thanks for the "heads" up.

I know it's a controversial statement, but you can get by with the focus head. You wouldn't be the first. Is it ideal? hardly. Is it safe? Not really. But if you can make it work for you then great, I just wanted to make sure I pointed out to BE CAREFUL! :) When you finally get an Oconnor head, you be happy you did.
