wow just re-colored a 3 minute music video. using the new redcine like tools with the native color tools give you utmost control. I dont think I have seen this much control of a codec since scratch scene (all for for free).

wrong forum I know. I cant wait to see what Adobe has to offer. Bear in mind that even with what Adobe might offer, the only limitations in FCP studio are 2k resolution and its current outdated RealTime Unlimited technology implimetation. i dont think they ever envision working with super high res stuff. My point is by the time FCP studio 3 comes out, color would have apple-lised to support extreme resolutions of new still and motion cameras.

Will Adobe still have an edge?
With the new final cut studio workflow, will fcp users switch to Premiere?
With the new update of Shake, is Apple still working on that application?
Will color be better than lustre?
will FCP fully incoporate motion as one program?

Apple is actually a company that listens to thier users but they create all the
hype when products are actually finished.

The only limitations in FCP studio are 2k resolution and quicktime only. I want 4K on any format! i'm willing to try magic bullet looks on 4K .R3D or color finesse. Assimilate's scratch is still too expensive but very effective.

fxguide interviewed one of the origional developers of shake, Ron Brinkmann

when asked if apple is working on a new high end compositer his response....
"I wouldn't put a lot of money on it happening"

no...

Will Adobe still have an edge?

likely on windows....

you mean...now that FCP supports .r3d?
why would added support cause people to switch.???...they miss the good old days:biggrin:

i still don't get it, they say native support, but it's a rewrapped quicktime version at 2K of a 4K .r3d file, doubling drive space.

There is also gamma issues on the renders from Color, I think this plugin has been rushed out.

Now, I feel sort of happy that the Adobe plug is being delayed in order to be refined.

Still haven't tried the color thing (Dang!!), but have you tried the FCP that comes with color?

My guess is also that it will be codec dependant. If you render out prores, you're fine, but if you render anything else, you'll see the gamma-shift.

In that case, make a LUT

I haven't tried exporting to DPX, but the ProRes is where the gamma-shift happens. And it's not slight. It's huge.

I have always noticed the Gamma shift, there are 2 different issues with that quicktime and over brightened Apple gamma itself.

So it turns out, after some testing, that graded footage rendered out of color looks normal in QT player ONLY if the 'Final Cut Compatibility' gamma adjust box is UNCHECKED. Which should not be the case. When the box is checked, the rendered clips are way too dark.

And for some reason, when the timeline is 'Sent from Color to FCP' the gamma looks correct in FCP, but when the clips themselves are imported from the Finder, they're dark.

Arrgghh!
