  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So here is the issue:

Doing a ramp from 24fps to 120fps for 5 seconds, while holding a 180 degree shutter throughout.

The ramp works fine (at any duration, incl. 5 sec) but the shutter will not stay at a relative 180 degrees for the ramp.

Tried normal, syncro, and relative modes for shutter, but all three will not hold the 180 shutter through the ramp. My understanding is that relative mode should be used for this, but it is not working.

In fact, when doing the ramp the shutter seems to be going in the opposite direction than it should be, and sometimes just giving random degrees through the ramp...

24fps @ 1/48th = 180 degree
120fps @ 1/240th = 180 degree

So, the shutter speed should move from 1/48th to 1/240th through the ramp, but it is not doing this.

My question is, why won't this work? Is it a setting I'm missing? Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Also, any relavant post relating to ramping that anyone is aware of, please drop a link... thanks!

well isn't the shutter compensating for the exposure change? If it stayed at 180 degrees, the picture would get darker and darker as the frame rate went up unless you were pulling the iris at the same time.

I just made a test for you. ramping on starting on 25fps with 1/50 shutter in 2k 2:1 and the end speed was 120 fps. Relative shutter on an dit worked perfect. I saw the shutterspeed climing. As you now it was getting darker. But it stays on 180 degrees as it ended in 1/240.
Build 17 on reddisk and on 28. Basic framerate 25 fps (europe)

Try it one more time i would say

oh and to arrinick, yes, of course, it does get darker :)... the problem is I want a certain look, and the shutter compensating for exposure sorta ruins it. anyway, thanks for the responses. I guess I was hoping for magic... 180 degree shutter, with a ramp, while holding exposure... ha. But at least I got the ramp to work, it was user (my) error. thanks again.
