Can anyone please explain the "MAX" button that has appeared in the menu on Build 17?

What does it do?

Why would I want less awesomeness than "MAX" awesomeness?!

Seriously though... What is it for, and turning it off does what exactly?

The manual says that it should always be on, except when shooting 4k @ 16:9, then it should be turned off? What? Why?

Does it matter if you are using REDCode 28 or 36 compression? I need to know! Please help...

MAX mode

The manual says always use MAX, unless you need real-time (i.e 23.98 or 25.00 fps) decode of 4K 16:9 or 2:1 footage.

It forces the camera to use an encoding process closer to the one it used pre Build 16.

A grain of truth, but not 100% accurate. (and no, I don't want to debate past posts on this subject)

See above. MAX delivers the maximum image quality.

Always use that unless you need to decode 4K 16:9 or 2:1 in software and also need that decode to have REAL-TIME performance.

ahhh ok..

ahhh ok..

I see it's a post thing for compatibility with scratch. Cool. As far as I'm concerned then, I'll just use the recommended MAX settings and let post do their thing. Thanks!
