  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Multi-Core Use

Might be interested in this as well, having a dual quad at the moment might be a possible update for me aswell ... not quiet familiar with this mobo, are there any differences between such one and a regular workstation mobo???

I've done some research , but it seems due to the economical world , the manufacturers seem to push production a little back, and the info i could found tells me that 8 core processors won't happen till the end of next year, or am I misinformed??

our experiments with RED Cine (and Scratch) showed that the RED CODE algorithm does not scale well beyond 8 cores.

We did benchmarking tests on several 16-core and 32-core systems -and none of them could beat an overclocked 8-core system for playing back and transcoding R3D footage.

How effective is REDCine in using multi-core processors? I'm looking at building a custom computer with quad six-core processors.

I had the 24 cpu Intel7400-Supermicro combo for test.
To work properly You need Windows 2008 server.
In which REDCINE is NOT working properly.
Crashing, Rendering bad frames, very low usage on cpus...

In Win 2003 ADVANCED SERVER 64 bit, issues with REDCINE, and low cpus usage. If You install WIN XP64 it is stable but it uses only 16cpus of 24.

As Boxx guys said, Skulltrail with Watercooling, OC to 4.0 and You got perfect machine at the moment.

Or wait a little bit and buy Supermicro X8DA3 with 2 x 55xx xeon, and You will crush any skulltrail system by far.

Regards
