  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

AUDIO BOARD Upgrade Program

Hi Brent.

While I realize you guys are busting your balls getting the 1. gen. R1 updated for us all, may I ask when the Pinewood facility will be up and running? I screwed a screw :angry2: trying to change the PL-mount and so I can't really use any of my Nikon glass... As a EU owner, I'm kinda reluctant having to go through all the customs stuff sending my camera back to the U.S. so that's why I ask.

Cheers

Yeah, waiting here too. Would love to use a pro mic like my MKH-50 with phantom power from my Red. A bit concerned that they have thousands of cameras to go through. Is that right? Or am I missing something.

Hey Sean, if you can wait for the board great, if not I got a cable made that splits the audio and phantom power source on 2 lines and brings them in as one. In other words, you set up phantom power on channel 4 (for example), plug in the power line of the cable into channel 4, then I activate channel 2 (for example) without phantom power and plug in the audio line of the same cable (one cable is split into 2 lines - power and audio). This will allow phantom powered mics to work and there is no buzz. Been working successfully for me since spring. PM me if you want a contact to the guy who made it.

Cheers,
Dale

Oh no way. What a brilliant idea. If that's been discussed on these forums previously, I totally missed it. I will absolutely PM you. Thank you Dale!

UK facility is up and running - as an upgrade center, NOT as a full repair center. And we do not have a date when it would be at this time. If you are saying that you stripped a screw, any machine shop can get that out for you.

Thanks for the info Brent.

Ok, so I guess I couldn't send it in anyway without having sorted the striped screws beforehand - good to know.
I thought of having a machine shop look at it, but since its so close to the sensor, I felt that it better be a something that RED do for me, even at a price. I'll go looking for a machine shop that'll do it for me.

Don't get me wrong, we'd love to do it for you - at no cost. We have done it a few times in our shop here, no doubt. Frankly one of the primary drivers that we switched to Torx Plus from normal hex screws on the mounts.

But any professional machine ship will properly tape off the mount and prevent any shavings to hit the OLPF. No more than a 5 minute job.
