Here's a quick overview of when the new toys are expected to start shipping. Man, I sure wish it was spring 2010 already. Hm - but then again, I'd miss all the fun... Oh hell, it's just great being a part of a true revolution :)

In the interests of your own planning sanity you might want to also put a mark for when RED ONE was originally scheduled to start shipping - and marks for when the first 50, 100, 500, 1000, 2000 etc actually shipped.

It'd be awesome if RED shipped in gigantic quantities, on schedule, but given the ambitious scope of the project it looks difficult.

It's a crazy timetable - personally brings back flashbacks from VFX shot delivery schedules from projects I'm trying to blot out of my mind.

That said, if they do it, it'd be AWESOME!

Almost as awesome as if they delivered a PC Quicktime codec and a RedCine that was either fully functional or could export un-crippled .xml files ;)

So, maybe I'm just reading the specs differently because I'm in minnesota - and January is definitely winter here - but when Red says shipping winter '09, I think that's Q1, not Q4 2009.

Is your chart backwards?

Thanks for putting it together!

That's a good point... should have said Q1 or Q4 not just Winter.

Two things not on the chart:

when will there be a cutoff for RED One owners to shit or get off the pot on the Epic upgrade trade in deal.

when will they stop making/supporting the RED One camera

I agree, the project is mildly ambitious, but let's just sit back and see what RED does. RED pulled off some amazing stuff in the past, and from what I hear, they won't stop now...

Planning sanity - oh well, you really just have to remember that one little phrase: "Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..." - you'll be fine then... :)

Well I think the chart is correct the way it is (now)... I just put down everything how RED announced it, keeps me from jumping to conclusions...

This is my take on it - for good and bad. But before I spill my oppinions all over the board, it's important to understand that I've followed RED from day one over at DVInfo.net and that I'm into RED as much as the other guy.

RED has grown from a garage business to become a million dollar business and at least from my standpoint is expected to live up to that. I don't see why they shouldn't. I see a lot of people have demands in what they want in the camera and how they want it, (and often totally unreasonable) but I haven't seen any real concern about delivery time. Perhaps that's because there are more "wanters" then actual buyers here.

Standing in line with a year long delivery schedule would bum me out.

If I was involved (which I'm not and for that I'm bummed too:) I would stop announcing and start planning for mass delivery. Because with what they unleashed - they are going to need it!
