  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What parts and accessories do I need for a complete Red Package? In the Red store its difficult to figure what I need and what I don't.

List so far:
Red Body
Production Pack
LCD Pro
LCD Cable

What else do I need to have a useable camera for handheld and on a tripod?

That all depends on the style/level of filmmaking you intend to pursue.
For feature/commercial work I'd recommend about $30,000 for the basic camera components. Add $10K for the 18-85mm Pro lens and another $10,000 for basic support accessories.

Red One
CF Module
2x Battery systems (minimum for all day shooting)
LCD
EVF
Base production pack
4x CF cards
2x Red Drives
Arri 19mm or 15mm base
Belt battery pack
Quick Plate
2x universal mounts

Don't forget
ET EVF mount
ET Breakout Box

You can always build a bare bones indie package with Nikkors or ZFs but you will still need about $30K minimum.

4x CF cards
Nikon Mount

Intended Use would be features. Looking at renting Ultra Primes for my next feature.

Red Drives (x4)

You're probably only talking about RED STORE items but please don't forget about a heavy-duty fluid head and sticks, a good mattebox with quality ND-IR filters and some sort of follow-focus solution.

I'd definitely recommend the ET breakout box and EVF mount - I use both and would be lost without them. Dependent on what you're going to be doing with your kit, you could probably get away with two drives and a bunch (4 -6) of the 16gb cards; shoot to the drives for all your coverage/long set-ups, and then the cards if you had to go hand-held/tracking vehicle, etc (and assuming you wanted to shoot 4K).

Also, check out the redrock mattebox setup - it might save you a few bucks... it's not absolute topline stuff, but it is very serviceable.

Good luck, and good shooting.

I would think that 4 Red-Drives are overkill for narrative feature work. Otherwise, your list looks good.

And you'll definitely need a good tripod.

What do you think of the Panther T45 and Panther C150/1?

This is what I'd consider a bare-bones kit for narrative work:
Red Body - $17500
Production Pack - $1250
5.6" LCD - $1700
Batteries/Power Pack (x2) - $2900
CF Module - $500
8GB CF Cards (x4) - $800
Red Drives (x1) - $900
TOTAL= $25,550

Of course, lenses are not included in that price.

"8GB CF Cards (x4) - $800"

IMO forget 8 gig cards ..
16gig cards are worth the extra $$ ..
