With permission of Dr. Suresh (it was on the radio at that moment) here goes another clip:
www.macgregor.autoecstasy.com/red2K/911.wmv

Shot at ISO 640, 22fps, 1/50th of a sec, WB around 4500º, B17, UP 32mm at T2.5.
Having a black porsche does not help a lot for night shots.
Having a driver that looks like a T800 is good. He doesn´t get tired. And will never stop. :bleh:

Macgregor, looks great, one question though. Did you process the image in any way? I am looking at the noise (grain) and curious to know if that is a byproduct of build 17 or something else? By the way 22 fps for the car looks good.

Method

Your work always looks top-notch, Macgregor.

Anything used to augment the natural light?

What will this footage be a part of?

Thanks for posting.

Ok if you want you could take my white car, i will take your black porche :)

Silly question from someone who don't own a red yet but study the question, what people do about this very unpleasant noise in the shadows? Is it the web compression?

I mean i don't expect wonder in such a situation but here doesn't look like film grain but compression artifact.. How the red perform is low light? Is it possible to keep a decent level of detail without crushing the black while keeping level of noise admissible for a 2k cinema projection?

Many Thanks!

Camera Generated Grain??

Camera Generated Grain??

vincent,

From what I can see I like the noise that is in this clip. I don't believe it is just camera generated.

Noise? Where?
If you see noise maybe your screens are not properly calibrated gentlemen.

Ok, Ok,

not noise, your right it is not noise but for a lack of a good description I for one am talking about the texture of the images. I think it looks amazing. So is it camera generated or have you processed the video in any way? If it is camera generated then congrats to Red how ever I would feel very foolish if the look was based on a web compression.

The only real "noise" I see in this clip seems to come from the compression.

Awesome video, is there anymore footage left at the end or does the clip end there? I think you should let the audio clip finish with the video.

I'm also wondering about everyone seeing noise. I have looked at this clip 3 or 4 times through and am not seeing any noise. There is WMV compression blocking in the road that you can see by pausing, but it's not noise, and you shouldn't be judging a moving image by a still shot.
As for the 22 fps, it's a common practice to shoot cars or fast moving action at a slightly slower frame rate to give it a slightly faster snappier look without it looking unnatural. Great looking footage Macgregor.

I really didn't mean noise. There is this beautiful texture to the clip and I am not speaking of the macro blocking.

Great stuff Macgregor, I LIKE IT.

I'll take a guess on why the 22FPS frame rate. I didn't see the video but I expect the moving car was being shot from another vehicle. You don't want to be driving too fast as that increases the chances of the car going out of frame or at least not staying put in the frame. But you also want the impression of speed. So you drive slow and shoot 22fps.
