  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Filmscribe - XML - Redcine

So when my offline edit is finished, how do I get the timeline into redcine and create dpx's? I need a 100% (you know what I mean) working workflow from R3d to dpx's ready for the online station.

Theres alot of things "coming", I need a working workflow on monday, catch my drift?
How do I go from Avid to DPX's that represent the offline edit?

(Thing is that there's alot of fear from people around me and I need to demo the workflow even if the DPX part is in Januari)

For now if you can send me your bin with a test sequence in it, I will make you an XML from the latest "about to be released" version for you to use.

Please zip the bin first.

Thanks

I sent you a testbin, but the issue isn't really in filmscribe it's more that the merge of FS_Scan_REDCINE and the XML from Filmscribe doesn't work. I get an error that looks like this:

Parse error 0xc00ce508:
An unsupported character was found in the text

line 1, char 2

(I translated from swedish so it might not look exactly the same in english)

This error prevents them to merge and me to then import it into redcine for the DPX output.

If you have been using Swedish (å, ä, ö) characters in the bin then the XML output of FilmScribe will contain illegal characters. This is because the text encoding from FilmScribe (at least from my experience) have been other than the expected UTF-8.

On Mac it's MacRoman and on PC it's Windows Latin.
Both needs to be encoded as UTF-8 if the output is XML.

I hope this is adressed in the 3.0.6 update. MichaelP?

By the way Glazarus - you're still welcome to send me a private message and I will try to help you off list. You seem to be treading water on this matter and Sweden is too small of a country to not know your fellow Red filmmakers.

I need to check into the character issue with engineering. I can't remember where that is process wise.

I am in the US and I get the exact same error at the exact same place. Any help would... help.

Parse error 0xc00ce508:
An invalid character was found in text content.

line 1, char 1

Try opening it in a text editor and strip everything that is before the first < and after the last >

The extra characters have been fixed in the 3.1 release - couple weeks away.

Did you try Monkey Extract for this? It makes DPX from an EDL...
