It seems that human error has caused "burned components" inside the Red One when the power cable was inadvertantly attempted to be inserted into the external drive socket. The fact that both the power socket and the ext. drive socket are located so close together makes this error seem very high in probability given enough time. The use of a male connector on a cable to provide "power in" is non-standard in nearly every industry (except some audio cables with phantom power). The use of a female cable connector to provide "power in" would seem a better choice for future products such as Epic and Scarlet. I am sure a retrofit for the Red One would be welcome also.

Thanks for listening. The Red One is a great camera, only to be surpassed by the Red Team.

However, with LEMO connectors, many devices use male connectors for power in, the CanaTrans and Preston FIZ are just two examples I can figure off the top of my head.

How hard was the power connector pushed into the drive connector? Smashed in there, or lightly pushed in to where it shorted something out? I'd guess you'd really have to push to make that happen. I once heard of someone putting a FW800 cable in upside down by forcing it, blowing a drive. Could this be similar?

I noticed this earlier on another thread - I'm assuming it's the same case of user error not covered by warranty (a pretty expensive mistake!) - I was wondering how people would handle this in a rental situation...take it on the chin or pass on the repair fee to the production company in question?

How do you do that?

How do you do that?

I have many times (in a hurry) tried to put the power plug into the drive socket. I have never had a problem. It is a very different pin-out!

Who ever did it mush have pushed like a Mother F&^#er to get the pins to make contact. Unless your camera is somehow different from mine.

Bigger problem is that EVF and LCD is the same..... IN BOTH ENDS!
You can plog the same cabel in EVF out and LCD out at the same time!!!!!!!

yeah.. mustve pushed too hard.. lol. i did it twive but never all the way.. it dont fit.. it dont fit.. wont deliberately push too hard.
