  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Building a couple of workflows to deal with big amounts of Redcode RAW footage, and I'm really loving the use of the proxies in FCP.

For 4K footage, using the 2K proxies to batch convert to ProRes 1080 and DV offline with window burn works very quickly and looks great. Certainly good enough for broadcast and DVD. For greater control over the original footage, of course RedCine is better (once timecode via QT export is implemented).

The only snag is that 2K footage doesn't have 2K proxies, just 1K, .5K, and .25K.

Would it be possible to have an option to make the same size proxies for 2K footage as is made for 4K footage - mainly to be able to have 2K proxies for 2K footage (which doesn't really make it a proxy does it... )

And here in lies the problem. It's not a 'proxy'. It's the full high quality which would require the debayer (which is slow).

However, you will get this functionality in the near future. At the moment the codec is without the debayer so it can't do it (hence you don't have that option).

Once we enable it this will probably slower than the 2K 'proxy' from 4K source, it will be a slightly higher quality even (since it's not a 'proxy').

p.s. I've quoted the word proxy to indicate it's not a real proxy (it doesn't involve you creating another big-ass file with render times), it's an instant lower resolution / quality version of your original, in "real-time" (depends on your system resources)
