Hello RED. We have made some shots under a project settings: 4K - ANA. We have used some anamorph lenses from Hawke. We made 3 shots all perfect - exterior 12 deg C. Then we got inside in a studio - interior 24 deg C. We made two shots further, here. All perfect. We tried to play it (using the playback on camera). All ok. Then we made a last final shot. We tried to play it back. Then it told us: "Playback error - codex fault". Now we were not allowed to see our first shots.

Pls. react RED asap, we are in a severe test situation and we are going to return the Hawke lenses back tomorrow evening. Is the footage saved or do we have reshoot? - Is it only a firmware bug under playback where the footage is still okay?

PS. We have not got our own applebook pro yet, so we have to try to transfer the files by help of a third party tomorrow.

Codec Error on playback.

Codec Error on playback.

Probably just a firmware bug. Your footage should be O.K.

We did fix a bug one that sounds just like that. A re-boot should clear the condition.

Build 17 v3.4.1 software should not see the playback error you described.

Hi Stuart,

Thanks a lot for your quick answer. First we run under build 16 version 3.2.5. We did allready try a reboot on set (turned power off the camera + started up again). We can still playback the last take. But when we try to go back to a more recent shot, we still get this error (just tried it).

PS. The whole look of the screen on the LCD monitor miss all the menu's we usually see when we some days ago made perfect test shots, ie. 4k 16:9 and 2K 16:9 and played them back, several times. - Is this a 4K ANA problem maybe? Can we still hope that all our 4K ANA footage is okay?

The whole look of the screen on the LCD monitor miss all the menu's we usually see when we some days ago made perfect test shots, ie. 4k 16:9 and 2K 16:9 and played them back, several times.

Is that perhaps just because the LCD is in its VIDEO ONLY display mode rather than VIDEO + MENUS display mode? i.e press the right hand button on the top of the LCD....

Hi Stuart,

Tried it and it worked fine. Thanks a lot. Now we can see the menu's again.

I tried another harddisk where we had already recorded some takes in 4K 16:9. Now we can replay the shots on that harddisk (with sound) without any problems.

We have had some problems when we change harddisk or cf-card (8gb). The firmware cannot recognize the media. Is there something we miss in operation, when we change media; i.e. from harddisk to cf-card, which was project setup'ed & formatted with different project settings than the harddisk?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but you probably should set the camera to the same PROJECT RESOLUTION and TIME BASE (FRAME RATE) as the original recording.

Hi Stuart,

You were right. We tested the scenes by help of a thirdparty company (EBH) this morning. We saw that the proxies were all right and every folder for the shots had the files associted with the takes. So the takes were stored on harddisk & ready to copy. We proxie previewed every shot and there were no miss and no frame droppings.

We just have left to find out why the media can't be recognized:
"The firmware cannot recognize the media. Is there something we miss in operation, when we change media; i.e. from harddisk to cf-card, which was project setup'ed & formatted with different project settings than the harddisk?".

Anaway we will test on two different harddisk's and let you know:
"I'm not 100% sure about this, but you probably should set the camera to the same PROJECT RESOLUTION and TIME BASE (FRAME RATE) as the original recording."

Thanks for your help, so far & have a good day
