I have the following problem going from FCP through Crimson into RedCine:

(And I do apologize if this has been answered, my searches didn't turn up results)

My FCP timeline is made up of _M quicktime proxies. Timeline settings reveal set codec to be ProRes (not sure if this is even relevant).

I export an XML from FCP, open it in Crimson (latest version), and match everything to my R3D's. I then export my RedCine xml and set my intermediates (intermediates with all default options)

In RedCine, I loadall my intermediates. This is where the trouble happens. All of a sudden, I can't open or save or do anything because my open/save dialog breaks. Basically the open save dialog only has the first leftmost panel, and clicking on it does not open any more. Which is where I'm stuck.

I am running OSX 10.5.5 mac pro. RedCine version 3.1.2. Whatever the latest quicktime, and the footage was shot on Build 15.

Also: I have done this before successfully with footage from Build 16. That was also edited using downconverted footage, and not proxies. Those were the only 2 differences.

I appreciate any help

REDCINE has a limit on how many R3D segments it can open at one time, and if you exceed it, you get the symptoms you're describing.

Try cutting your timeline in half, or in thirds.

Or using REDLINE straight out of Crimson.

No, it doesn't. Or at least... not on purpose. ;)

Do you have any examples, or any logfile/data/etc. that can help track this down?

I can provide any that may be helpful. Do you have suggestions to which I should post that are relevant?

I have encountered the same problem. The limit(in my case) is 140 clips.

Well it seems like an overabundance of clips was the culprit. That particular problem was solved after I cut my timeline in half. So I guess if it's not an intended limitation of RedCine, it should be looked at?

The evidence would suggest otherwise; unless you have a better explanation?

Symptom occurs every time you load more than around 140 segments, and is relieved in every case by reducing the number of segments to below that number.

Now I know statistician cry 'correlation is not causation' all the time, but this one seems pretty high.

I have the same problem. But my timelime only has about 8 clips or so. But these 8 clips come from a sequence of many 2GB chunks of the same file, because we let the camera roll for about 2.5 hours.

So does anyone knows Redcine file count limit?

I'm usually getting the open/save error at around 90 shots and above. On the other hand, I was able to open/save a construct with more than 200 clips, once.

So is there any official (RED? Assimilate?) info about this problem?
I'm forced to do reel by reel, and even that doesn't always work, instead of doing a big long export, saving a lot of precious time.

Thanks

I tried to examine my problem a little more.

I have a project, a live show, which we shot with 2 cameras. Total length about 2.5 hours for each camera. In total the camera segmented the continuous record into 139 2GB clips.

I edited a scene within the show, about 8 clips in the XML. All clips come from the same spot in the show, so technically, Crimson should identify the segments needed.

However, when I look into the folder, where Crimson places the Cowboy intermediates, I see all 139 clips for each camera referenced. All of this is of course loaded into Red Cine, which amounts then to 278 clips, right?

So this might be the problem here in our case, however I have no clue how to resolve this....
