I looked into them for possible purchase, but they would only sell me the 6 lens set at 9000 U.S. per lens = 54 grand. Ouch. They seem nice though.

Thanks for your great information.
So, any one been shot with this lenses set?
just wanna know how's the quality compete to Ultra Prime.

As characteristics Elites are closer to Cooke S4's. They're actually slightly warmer. As for resolution they're equal to S4 and UP's but more at the stop of 2-2.8, because when opened up on 1.3 they're quite soft and they IMO become more like speed panchros. Now I really like these characteristics and I also think it's really nice for RED (compensates for the "digital" look). They also flare incredibly beautifully, but as said they go soft when opened fully, even more so then super speeds. So if you don't like that kind of thing then your better of with SS or MP's on T1.3.

Hi Fred!

Thanks again for your great information about Elite S35MM Digital lenses, to be honestly I been used the Cooke S4's lenses while shooting a feature film in London on 2003, personally, I like Cooke pretty much, they worked great for me too.
So, I might going to order a set of Elite S35MM Digital Set, once again appreciate for your great news.

Cheers

Weirdcrew, can I ask what price you were able to get these. They are marked up here in the US, not the 4500 euro price on the website.

I can not discuss that I'm afraid. I bought a full set + 2 digi sets and the zooms so I got a nice discount. All I can say is that I'm very happy with how these lenses perform.

hi weirdcrew,
what do you mean by "compensates for the "digital" look"? is there any difference to elite digital35's compared to elite MKIII's other than their size?

No I was talking about Elite primes not the Digi. I haven't got the Digi yet.

They shouldn't be any different to each other in glass. It's the design - the "normal" Elites are MkIII inside and Cooke S4 outside. The digi primes are just made smaller but should be MkIII inside as well, as far as I've been told, but they're just almost half the size, so closer to Super speed (not in actual design but size). That also explains the range of the digi's. Why they named them Digi's is hard to say. I guess they thought that since they're smaller and easier they're better suited for the Digi formats? There's no special coating for digital or anything like that.

As for the "digital" look, it's just my preferences. I very often feel that RED can become to sharp and want to break it slightly, but I don't want to use diffusion filters etc. I then use color filters and "older" or less coated lenses to do so. The Elites seem to be excellent at this when fully opened. If you're shooting for film in the end you should do tests first, just to make sure you don't loose any res or it becomes noisy etc. For TV I think it's brilliant.
