I am testing RED footage compatibility with my system. I cannot seem to get audio through the transcoding process.

I am using:
an iMac 20" with 2.0 Ghz Intel Core Duo/2GB ram.
FC Studio 2 - FCP 6.0.2
RED RUSHES 3.48

I am using Rushes because I can load up a bunch of files and walk away while they trancode. RedAlert only seems to let me do one at a time.

I am transcoding the raw files to Apple Pro Res 422 1920 x 1080. So I can edit with them in FCP.

I have only one test clip with audio. The audio plays fine in the proxy files of any size. But there is no audio track in the newly transcoded file. In RED RUSHES there is an option under "QT wrappers" for Avid compatible audio, but checking or unchecking this does not make any difference.

Questions:
What am I doing wrong?
There is talk on the forums about RED RUSHES 3.50 yet I cannot find this on the RED Support page, or RED RUSHES for that matter... where can I get them?
What is the best way to ensure audio makes it through the transcode process?
Do I have to upgrade to FCP6.0.4 and use the new log and transfer option?

Any suggestions or help would be gratefully received.

Michael.

I think you should upgrade your Redrushes to 3.5 The 3.48 version does not transcode audio.

Use 3.50.
RR and RL are part of the REDalert package.

Thanks Deanan & radamo.... I upgraded to 3.50 and I get audio now.

Cheers,

Michael.

could someone please help me, i'm rendering clips in red rushes 3.50 and am not getting any audio, which i need.

what am i doing wrong?

i can't seem to find any settings relevant to audio, except the 'avid compatible audio' option.

I outputs audio by default. Is the clip finishing the render completely?

this is my first time using red rushes so you'll have to excuse any massive ignorance on my part which may become apparent.

i've got a batch of clips about 120gb in total i started rendering last night.

of these 50-odd clips, the first 8 are listed as 100% progress in the process window. so i assumed they were indeed completely finished, imported them in fcp and was annoyed to find only a very faint tone (2 channels) for audio.

so by "Is the clip finishing the render completely?" do you mean are they 100% in the process window? or is there something else i'm missing?

Sounds like they are finishing. The other possibility is that two channels were recorded out of phase which other and FCP/QT is mixing them together and they're cancelling each other out. One way to test is to go in QT Player and adjust the mapping of the sound tracks in the properties window. (i believe from stereo to mono or vice versa). Do the same with the camera proxies also.

oh i should have said i do know the audio was recorded - it comes thru fine when i play the proxies, and worst case scenario i know i can sync up the rendered clips with the proxies to 'get' audio.... but that'd be such a pain and i'd like to know why it's not coming thru on red rushes.

i tried playing with the properties in qt, trying different combinations of left/right, mono etc. and it makes no difference.

OK OK OK...... clip number 10 was completed a while ago and i just opened it up - audio plays fine!

the only thing i can think of is a couple hours ago ie. after it had finished rendering the first clips but before it started the latter ones like number 10, i switched on the 'avid compatible audio' option. but i didn't expect it would make a difference because of what self-inflicted wrote in his original post:

"In RED RUSHES there is an option under "QT wrappers" for Avid compatible audio, but checking or unchecking this does not make any difference."

anyways, problem solved i guess, thanks for your help guys!

EDIT: i'm a complete tool (!), turns out the first 8 clips were rehearsals and there was no audio rolling yet, i confused them with other proxies which have audio...
