Does anyone know if you can use IDX V-Mount batteries?

(IDX Endura Elite 142W/h Li-ion Power Cartridge V-Mount Battery)

I have plenty of these powering my XDcam and would save me buying new with my RED

Yes, I use Endura 80 stackable batteries and they work fine.

The only point to consider is you don't get a battery indicator in the viewfinder only a 'DC' power indicated in the display.

Not to rain on any parades, but we only recommend RED BRICKS as a battery. Not saying any of the above would do this, but should a non-RED power source cause damage to a RED ONE or RED accessory, it would not be covered under warranty. I know, I know, I am a buzzkill :)

Hypothetically, how can a battery, that is typical in the industry, cause damage to the Red One?

Well Im not quite sure what to say. I respect the position but the entire worlds camera manufacturers and battery manufacturers mix and match and have done for at lest the 30 years I've worked in the industry with out any problem I've ever been aware......

This is definitely not right. RED wants to be a motion picture camera. Well, you can basically use any brand of batteries on a motion picture camera (with the right specs, of course) and the warranty will NOT be affected.

Why did RED choose this wrong stance about it? I thought it wants to be a modular system, freeing the user to use any kind of 3rd party accessory he wants.

Plus, I believe the RED body does not have a fuse insight, protecting the components from surcharges etc. Is that the answer to a questionable manufacturing decision?!...

I think it's time to change that policy. It's not fair to basically force people to shoot RED only using RED bricks (or else the warranty will not be honored!). Again, this is unique in the world of motion picture cameras.

Let me clarify - note I did not say to "not use other power sources". I just said if a non-RED power source damages your RED ONE or your RED accessories, it would not be covered in warranty. Hence, we recommend the safe route - using RED BRICKS. Please do not read into it beyond that....

You said it right, Medavoym - "with the right specs, of course". People have tried hacked gear with wrong specs and damaged their RED ONEs. In that case, that would not be covered under warranty.

We have 8 REDbricks, and we use them whenever we can on RED,
but since REDbricks and REDcharger ARE being made by Blueshape, You can use Blueshape batteries with full confidence.
We have 12 blueshape batteries for our HDCAMS, and we can't be more happier with this company. Not a single issue.
So it was really a good call to choose Blueshape for Redbricks.

I fully agree Brent. Doing stupid things like using batteries with different specs (too much voltage etc) should indeed void the warranty - no question about that.

However, how about using professional batteries like Anton Bauer Hytron 140, for example? Should people be afraid to use those, just because if something happens, the warranty will not be honored? That would not be fair, nor would be in line with RED's stated policy of modularity.

Any comment?
Thanks.
