  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

second hand reds

I would not be surprised if a second hand RED 1 body cost at least 17,500USD given the current road map that is planned for R1 owners...more then just a camera, its a key to the future. :)

yes, but why pay a premium when you can have a new one in just a month or two, plus a full 1year warrenty

Except of course if you want an epic sooner

Exactly, but probably only if you were in the earlier RED one reservations.

$599 for the body

OK, I'll pay you $599 plus shipping for yours. Sounds fair to me, besides it was your suggestion. :clown2:

Seriously, I would think that a use R1 body would only be worth $500 to $1000 less than new at the most. After all, they're worth $17.5K trade-in toward an EPIC. And if RED goes off of serial number, those lower numbered REDs just might go up in value.

Hi,

I would think a waranty is worth $4-5000. With the credit crunch I would be surprised if year old cameras were selling above $12,000 by Christmas. With Epic changing it's difficult to know what effect the trade in value will have.

one year warranty by red costs 2000 USD....4x90 days per 500 USD.
if you find reds for 12 000 usd send me a pm....seriously

My acute sense for pricing tells me that the RED ONE will be 15k used.

I'm not certain, but doesn't the serial number have to be attached to the "original owner?"

Hi,

Extended warranties are not available, it's only possible to get a warranty for 90 days after paying an evaluation fee & possibly some upgrades. With a new sensor being released within 1 year prices will fall. I would also not be surprised if the price for a new Red One dropped, it's very normal with digital technology.

An Extended Warranty IS available

An Extended Warranty IS available

Stephen do the math... RED will give you a warranty for 90 days for $500 and the upgrades for most owners and most cameras is free... Therefore a camera kept up to date can be kept under "warranty" over a year for $2000
... as the original poster said... 4 times each 90 day period... I know because I am doing that with one of my cameras....
and I am surprised that you are so pessimistic about the re-sale value of the camera from someone based in Europe.. from personal experience I can say that due to VAT, shipping and actual market penetration here in Europe the "cost" of both a new (and a used) red camera body is higher here than in US and is even LESS likely to reach this bizarre $12000 dollar figure you speculated about in the near future.

As long as EPIC is in demand, the resale value for the RED One will remain high. Resale value of the RED One will also remain high as long as it remains continuously upgradable. The only time the R1 body will fall tremendously in value is if you buy one that is a generation or two behind in upgrades, as it will essentially reduce the value of that camera by the cost of making it current.

I'll agree with Stephen to some extent... There will be people out there who will sell their R1 for less than market value. I bet by early next year, I could find an R1 body for $12K or so if I shop around enough.. I could probably go fishing and offer $12K in a forum like this for a R1 body and someone will probably jump on it if they're not using the camera, rent is due, etc..

I don't know. Given that it has a $17,500 trade in value I think $15k is the bottom until the full EPIC program is revealed. All anyone would have to do is put up a best offer ad and wait a few weeks until someone needs a camera right away.

I think the market is changing enough that Scarlet will look much more like RED when it's done... which means RED upgrades would almost have to be to an EPIC instead of RED II. Which would mean EPIC might be cheaper. Plus, the economy is going to be worse in 6 months than it is now so a lot more people are going to think twice about upgrading to EPIC. RED works now.

I think people with low rez R1's are going to find a nice premium when the Epic specs are announced.

If history repeats itself and Red is only able to produce 50 cameras a month, I think the Epic will raise some interesting premiums.

Possibly surpassing Shawn's 80k offer :bye2:

As long as EPIC is in demand, the resale value for the RED One will remain high.
Ah. But this is the real question: who is going to buy epic? It will have it's high end users, there is no question. But it seems to me that the vast majority of Red purchasers come from a small scale HD setup. Upping the ante to 25 or 30 grand from ten was one thing. But another 20 grand, especially in the current economic 'chaos' that has been foisted on us? My guess is no. Resale value on the Redone will fall, like any other technology before it.

Well, I'll throw my line out there now......anyone got a Redone Body for sale for 12K?
