So, here we go. We shot the footage on a stage with tungsten light 320 asa 180 deg. There is an 720P prores live capture of the video assist feed clip in the link above. It was captured using an AJA IOhd and FCP. All the monitors on set were balanced for brightness. As you will soon see the Video Assist feed looks nothing like the files we transfered. (Well try downloading them first and look at them on your desktop not the web or just look at that histogram picture.).

I reloaded some of the footage from the shoot back on a Red Digital Mag and played that back from the camera to 17in HD monitor(same kind used on set day of shoot)hoping it would look like the video assist feed(all monitor adjustments were set up as the same day of the shoot), It looked way,WAY underexposed! How can that be? False color reading shows it to be 3-5 stops under. There were like 2 shades of blue!Look at the histogram in the link above(histogram picture is of the media reloaded not the day of the shoot). Wow.

There is no way we exposed these shots like this. I know on the day of the shoot if they saw this false color reading/histogram, they would have change something to get a correct exposure. We have all been on many shoots with the Red and we all love the false color. We used it on this shoot as well. But something went wrong here. Please let me know what is going on with this footage.

Where to begin...

Tungsten light on a blue screen (that is a blue screen right?) , with a daylight balanced sensor. Bad news!

Secondly, how are you going to key that blue outfit against a blue screen?

Exposure aside, you've got other problems.

Is the histogram you are showing us the actual reading from when you were on set? If so, I don't understand what the surprise is...it IS too underexposed - by a couple of stops.

Your description of what went down is not that clear, but I see a whole host of problems here.

Yes, it's a teal like background. The light is ment to fall off around the edges and some 3D work is to be compsited over this shot. I just posted a 4k tiff above.

The histogram is from the reloaded media. Thats the kicker! There is no way the DP and AC looked at that histogram and said "that's great let's shoot!". Absolutely crazy!
