  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stop The Press!! Nvidia Quadro CX !!

But QFX 5600/4600 has a Mac driver and still doesn't work with OSX, or am I totally lost in some Iridas/Assimilate/Matrix hype here?

Doesn't really matter if it works with this new board, though...

I found these guys with it arriving in warehouse on 10/28/08.

Anybody done business with them?

Mark, how soon on the Apple drivers? What about handling 2k/4k stuff out the SDI. Will it scale down? What about Pro Apps like motion and Color?
Will there be a control panel for settings? Downconvert/upconvert?
Sorry for all the questions; just fired up for this thing.

That's up to Apple - my guess - two months tops - HOWEVER - there's some motivation there - here's some silly quotes from USA TODAY -

"We're just smiling from ear to ear here," says Drew Henry, general manager of Nvidia's graphics card division.

"Having companies like Adobe and Apple build applications around our products is an absolute endorsement that the GPU (graphics processing unit) is becoming the center of the visual computing era."

In CS4 ... YES.

No, they are not currently Nvidia CUDA accelerated ("to my knowledge" (wink)) -

Well .. we have the 4500 SDi + 4600 SDI cards at Offhollywood at the moment, and they have a simple control panel that lets you select what you want out of the SDI - and yeah ... you should be fired up. This is significant.

anyone know if this GPU acceleration is more than just Elemental Technologies rapid HD?

that helps for AVCHD and HDV....but thats about all

I like this quote:

Added 10-bits per color (10bpc) DisplayPort support for full-screen applications on supported products such as the Quadro FX 470 or Quadro CX.

Dreamcolor anyone?

This is a CUDA enabled card. It will accelerate ANYTHING that has been CUDA compiled ... so ... in CS4 ... fluid interaction with Photoshop canvas - zooming/rotation, etc., accelerated rendering in CS4 for transformations, color correction, depth of field blur, turbulent noise .... etc ... etc ....

As for the REDCODE plugin ... I don't know ... I don't have the alpha/beta ... yet ... (hint, hint)

Hopefully this is the reason for the delay of the R3D plugin for CS4. A CUDA compiled version? Hardware accelerated R3D decompression?

That would be awsome indeed....

Looks right now that it accelerates h264...
and a lot of Photoshop....

I don't think (could be wrong as always) that the rendering accelerations are for Premeire or After Effects in any way.....

not to say you couldn't.....with CUDA you could do anything you want...but I have been following CUDA for a long time and I havn't seen any huge progress in applications other then RapidHD and some proprietary stuff.

For r3d acceleration the only way I could see that happening is if Luki teamed up with Adobe to make it happen....

which may have happened already......:umm:

It does AE too.

-- Adobe After Effects® CS4 now has added optimization features to accelerate a variety of creative effects, making it easier than ever to add graphics and visual effects to video, which allows the artist to quickly move from concept to final product and speeds up the workflow. Effects accelerated include depth of field, bilateral blur effects, turbulent noise such as flowing water or waving flags, and cartoon effects. NVIDIA Quadro CX takes advantages of these workflow enhancements.

But the current r3d SDK is CPU dependant. The route for GPU tho is not supported yet. So we are very much under RED mercy in this.

Perhaps the delay for the R3D Adobe plug-in is because RED is reworking it (and the RED SDK) to support CUDA? Perhaps this is wishful thinking, but the timing of CS4 announcements and the CUDA SDK seem to play into that conspiracy theory.

Am I right in thinking that a Quadro card with an SDI daughter-board takes up the space of three PCIe slots? If so that doesn't leave room for much else in a four slot Mac Pro.
