Just got a little "sneeky peeky" at what has been keeping Mr. Bloom so busy.

CRAZY stuff happens when you give a smart guy an SDK!!!

Ian's got a nice little Red present coming for everyone and inside the box there are four new trademarks ....

EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE - CLOSE TO MINDBLOWING

According to that news I'm looking forward to open a bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne and drink it to Mr.Bloom's good health and very long life.

I am thoroughly convinced that Ian is a mad scientist disguised as an unassuming digital filmmaker. Someday, he'll reveal his master plan to take over the world! :gun:

Crimson for me was and will be best solution . Thanks Ian .

Thanks Biba, I'm glad you feel that way.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the current Crimson. That's why I started over;)

Incidentally I just did another FCP->Crimson->Redline->DPX->Color conform yesterday. I think it is pretty great having Color free with FCP but I found on a few things I am wishing I had a 12 bit+ image instead of 10 bit DPX. Anyone had an experience with 2K or 1080p TIFF conforms? Is it worth it?

I have exported this for AVID onlines.
Very happy customers...

Real curious about what you're up to with the SDK, I hope it is goodbye RC for all situations (which I still find it hard to totally rid me of).

I know Color can read TIFF sequences, but does TIFF support time-code? If not is an auto-conform possible?

I have got pretty good results in Color using RedLog DPXs. I get Color to interpret them as if they are PDLog, then add a correction to compensate for the difference between RedLog and PDLog.

Looking forward to your new app. Happy to volunteer as a Beta tester if you need any.

Ok, you are making a really good point about timecode and TIFF files. I think this is where XML has the upper hand over EDLs. I have another project I'm conforming next week with Color, I'll do some experimenting with TIFFs.

Why not use PDLog685?

What about 12bit DPX files, supported anywhere?? Is this something we want??

IBloom

We want higher bitrate files, and 12 bit would be jolly nice.
But support for 12 bit DPX?
Dunno

AFAIK DPX CAN be 16 bit, but what reads them, besides compositors?

Why not use PDLog685?

Indeed PDLog685 works too, but that wastes code values above the scene white level, thus reducing available dynamic range.

I wish I had a numerically accurate RedLog LUT for Color, but in the mean time my 'by eye' approximation isn't too bad. Although I am only finishing rec709 HD. Something more accurate would obviously be needed if going to film-out.

This will be a nice Christmas.
