Hi people, i am trying to figure out how to deal with fast deliverys coming from an sport event, shooted at 120 fps with red. The solution must to be fast because this footage needs to be edited on avid just at the end of the event and will be on TV at the same night. Every week. My main option is to make some edits in FC with proxys just on set to minimize the footage for transcoding. How abot the codecs for ingesting in AVID. The other option is to play out from FinalCut downconverted through BlackMagic and ingest in AVID and TAPE at the same time.

thanks in advance

R3D to DPX to Avid would be to slow. If shooting 16:9, you can look into using MPEG Streamclip from www.squared5.com as it transcodes pretty quickly and you can select the DNxHD data rate of your choice. I say 16:9 since it won't correct for the 2:1 aspect ratio. You might want to time that against REDrushes to 175x.

Compressor might be fast enough as well, but none of the transcode methods will be as fast as a real time play to tape and ingest.

I agree, even is much more quality than wath i need for this purpose.

supose i trascode to DNxHD, (is a 2k to hd conversion faster than a 2k to SD?)
downconversion from DNxHD timeline to SD is done direct from avid hardware without rendering?

is any chance to export from redtools or from final cut/compressor in a SD friendly codec to ingest in avid without any adittional trascoding?

thanks both

you should be able to download avid codec from the avid site. if installed correctly it should show up in the export options of final cut pro. i do it sometime going from FCP to AVID Meridien 2:1 - works fine.

You can go from H to an SD Avid codec in Compressor. Reports on this thread have gotten near real time going to DV25.

Use MetaCheater on the rendered QT's to ensure metadata for SD workflows.

what quality you are looking for?

I don't need to make intensive color correction but i need to cut fast and deliver the edit to for TV PAL just in one or two hours. I will be recording sports at 120 fps and the final output is a cinematic slomo clip and some footage for the aperture of the TV showed at the night.
My first option is to cut the footage with proxys in FC and then export through compressor to DV25 or SD 2:1 (i will test this option you propose) or second option. directly render the edited timeline in FC and played out to DIGIBETA and realtime to AVID from an AJA or BM board intalled on FC.

I will test this soon,

thanks everybody...
