Can you adjust the ET EVF mount to on the horizontal plane to maintain good balance of the camera on your shoulder? My main concern to avoid a front heavy set up.

Thanks

Rob

For my taste, just barely.
But they have a longer dovetail for the front-rear slide coming soon and that will undoubtably make it perfect... it's meant for putting the EVF farther BACK to work with a geared head but I can't think of a reason it wouldn't work the other way...
Cheers,
Harry

The dovetail sliding piece that attaches to the VF can be spun around to offer comfort on a head or best balance for hand held. I have noticed people NOT doing this and ending up with hand held balance difficulties.

However the Red camera takes some thought (or ET new hand-held system) to get a good handhold balance.

We can get near balance with:
ET/RED 19mm base
2 light weight 12"bars on the bottom NOT extending beyond the back of the base
Moose bars
LMB 15 matte box on a UP lens
FF4
2 light weight 3"bars holding thecradle pointing down from the top
Red battery and drive on the cradle
EVF with ET bracket spun to allow EVF to run all the way to the MB and stay parallel to the camera
Shoulder on the bottom of the Red camera tucked against the plate (a rag is useful)

I wanted to lose the cradle and run the battery on the belt and use 16gb cards..Unfortunately hand held becomes a chest and arm effort if we do.... AND the camera feels really heavy.

I guess this is where ET's new handhold rig comes in.

Michael

PS if you dumped the FF4 and MB you could lose some of the awkward mass at the back..

To have more flexibility in the mounting of the EVF, I have attached the ET piece which attahces the mount to the camera on a universal mount, instead of directly to a top mount, this allows me to put the EVF farther fowards or backwards on the rails, alsoit allows me to keep my Monstercine focus hook attached.

Damien

Many thanks for the helpful responses. Before buying the ET EVF mount I will also have a discussion with the ET people.

What got me thinking about this was an interview on the net with the DOP of 24 Hours who recommended the SIM handheld/EVF mounting rig for the RED because it was so well balanced. The camera sat back on the shoulder A LOT more than most of the pictures I have seen of hand held rigs.

It is very important to me that I can use the camera comfortably shoulder mounted.

I have to say that on day 23 of the movie I am on right now, we finally figured out hand held. The solution was going back to a Noga arm to hold the EVF.

Yes, although the ET EVF mount looks great and is the most "pro" solution for tripod and other mount work, it adds a whole pound of extra weight I don't want for handheld. The RED arm can be configured well enough for my handheld needs.
