Arrrgghhh. Hey guys. I've just got my camera today, unboxed everything, undoing the mount to switch to Nikon one and Ive stripped one of the torx bolts on the PL mount would not budge at all - balls and i was very gentle with her. Every one but this one next to the idata pins is fine.

Anyone in the UK able to help or know of anyone, RED anyone?. I'm in Hertfordshire, about 30min out of London. No urgent rush but just annoying.

PM me and can give my number or email. There is a number for my on my EP website.
Thanks for any assistance.

Andrew.

(Sorry I know this is in the wrong place mods).

To be honest i don't know.

It just would not budge at all & just my luck it was last one. I had hardly no pressure behind it, and i was using a proper torx screwdriver that fitted. I don't know the metal just melted. It tweaked once like it was catching but thats it.

Im still looking for a solution here in the UK if anyone knows of someone who can help. I used to be a special effects tech but i dont want to do this myself. Im having one last go by shaving down a small flat screwdriver to fit and engage with whats left but its a long shot.

4 hours in my hands and i cant shoot.

Is there any hope of a "Factory Installed Nikon Mount" Option?

Is there any hope of a "Factory Installed Nikon Mount" Option?

(If I've missed this convo already, I apologize...)

Dear REDsters...
I don't believe this is presently an option, but will it ever be possible to choose alternate mounts to be pre-installed on our cameras when they ship??
I keep hearing enough of these accidental bolt stripping stories to be really put off of swapping mounts myself... If I knew I was going to use Nikon Glass from day one, it would be pretty sweet to be able to get the Nikon Mount "Factory Installed" and be sent the PL mount for later use..
And I'm sure if given the choice, most users would prefer to cuddle and squeeze their newborn RED, rather than perform surgery on their new baby as soon as they open the box...
hugs and kisses,
CK

Yeah you can have the Nikon mount installed. I did email but they had already shipped the camera by then doh!

I'm still on the lookout guys for someone in the UK that can help. Otherwise its me and my drill living in perfect harmony with a screw extractor.

Andrew.

Phew. All done.

I plucked up the courage and my drill to extract the torx bolt and i managed it. I made an insert out of model making materials (crap i've had lying around since those days) to go into the OLPF area and wrapped 2 turns of electrical tape to fit snugly. Taped off the rest of the area and went for it will a drill extractor which didnt really work well but hey its out and im shooting so its not too bad.

Thanks to those who looked pondered and posted.

Andrew.

I had EXACTLY the same thing happen to me when I got my camera, so you're not alone. ..and it was the same bolt you describe that was stuck tight and wouldn't budge, even though I used the correct Torx screwdriver. I had to send mine back to RED here in the US. I haven't dared try to remove the Nikon mount since! But there's no wobbling that I can detect on my mount. My only problem with it is that the lenses don't "click" home as with a DSLR.

Thanks Moggy.

That's weird that its the same bolt that stuck. Ive put anti-sieze grease on the Nikon mount bolts so that should help and i didn't do them up too tight but you never know whats going to happen. Mine don't click home either, with the bushings in the mount it makes it a lot tighter than the older version, and i don't want to force the lens on any further in case i cant get it off again - should be fine.

Love this camera done some tests today and its great. Thanks guys.

Cant wait to shoot some proper stuff with it on Monday.

This is *exactly* what happened to me tonight while trying to swap out PL for Nikon. Last bolt, one-o'clock, tweaked once, and then, stripped... using the RED supplied IP10 wrench. :-(

That's 3 with the same bolt problem, Kyle did you just take delivery of yours in the past couple of weeks?
