Hi si I am shooting this movie on RED and B16 and all is great, no camera problems at all and really happy with it.
But when I put the camera in REC709 or REDSPACE there is way tu much saturation and green specially in mid-low tones and I know there shouldnt be that there...it has to do with how the curves are done I think but would like to know why and how can I bring a LUT my self in.
Thanks
M

Miguel, don't know if this applies to your situation given the little info you provide here, but if this is happening in RED Cine, then I can tell you that I once encountered a similar problem (wacky greens and hypersaturated whites) and the solution was to delete the Redcine folder (Path is /Library/Redcine on a Mac). After I did that, all the colors were restored to their correct values.

May be worth a try.

Hi,
thanks for the reply.
What I see is in camera more than redcine really when I jump from RAW to redpsace or Rec709 beside the expected latituted change what gets in the miage a lot os green color in places where it shoudnt be even when i jsut shoot tungsten based light is crazy...not worried about it but want to know why...
thanks

How do the R3D files look if opened in Red Alert! or RED Cine? Which build are you on? Have you done a black shading calibration since encountering this issue? Have you contacted RED about this via a support ticket?

Miguel,

I post this somewhere else, but here is again.

Can you tell me more about your feature?
How is called? What is about?, etc.
Do you have any clips or photos that you can post here?

I am interested in everything has been done in Chile or by Chileans on RED!!!

Saludos,

PS.- No tengo muy claro cual es tu problema con los verdes. Es en Redcine o es en la camara?.
Si me explicas los detalles en espanol, talvez puedo ayudarte.

Green skew in midtones

Green skew in midtones

I am presently shooting a Showtime special and I have noticed in certain sets that the background walls sometimes show a strong green skew.

When opened in Red Cine it disappears.

Other sets are perfectly fine in RedSpace or Rec 709.

I am only concerned when the onset monitors show this and the producers question the color.

In these cases I switch to Raw and it merely looks desaturated. I am curious why this occurs.

Hi Miguel & Pyelot,

I've found the Red camera to be quite sensitive to green light so if any of your HMIs, Kinoflos, LEDs or practicals have a little bit of green in them this will show up quite obviously on the Red. Since Redspace pushes the contrast and saturation the green cast will get exaggerated further. I'd perhaps check the lights you're using on certain sets where the problem manifests itself more - test them with a colour temperature meter if you can get hold of one and if needs be gel the problem lights with minus green (i.e. magenta - 1/8th, 1/4 etc).

If you can't get hold of a colour temperature meter then a low budget solution might be to try and do an automatic white balance on a piece of white card under the suspect lights - if you then go into the white balance menu you should see that the tint value may have changed considerably to compensate for the greenness in the light. Maybe then gel the light with different strengths of minus green gel until the value gets closer to zero (i.e. neither a green nor magenta cast). Obviously the preferred method would be with the colour temperature meter because it will tell you exactly how far off the lights are and hence what strength of minus green you'll need. Hope that helps.

I think that is good advice, and you could also go into the LOOK menu and adjust R G B gains. Try GREEN GAIN of - 0.1 for example. As this is only RAW metadata, you can "fix" your on-set monitor problem, but ignore that in post.

Or adjust the TINT value in the WHITE BALANCE menu..

Color Accuracy

Color Accuracy

The new "color Science" build - Build 20 has much more accurate color representation through the camera's monitor path and in RED Alert!

So you may wish to try that too.
