"Listen.. Jay.. I KNOW.. how just the RED Nikon mount fucked up my camera... ive been in pain for the last 3 months.. I havent been able to rent out my camera cause of the dust speck that turned out cause of it. Changing mounts is a dangerous game.

I honestly wouldn't mind paying for the damages, if any, made by swapping RED's own Nikon mount. I stripped a couple of screws.. I dunno what else happened when i was changing mounts.. I scarred my PL mount for good (though it's still perfectly functional).

BUT Please, for Any Reason at all, DO not Tell me that the warranty has been void for your entire camera. Tell me you gotta pay to fix these... and you will get your warranty back. I don't mind replacing the entire freggin front of the camera.. not the sensor.. -----IF----- I or anyone else who has voided their warranty whilst installing RED's own Nikon mount, IMS mount.. Birger mount.. any other mount.

And I am telling you guys.. Alot can go wrong when changing mounts.. A lot.

It's possible, but I'm here to say that we've put on three Nikon mounts and had zero difficulties at all in doing so.

1. You can poke into the sensor at any given point. Watch alesniak's 5 minute mount setup.
2. i had 5 or 6 of my screws stripped off.
3. when you strip off screws you get these small fragments that get into the air and onto your sensor...

4. Ive searched the forums and saw that theres one more guy who was in my situation with the dust speck appearing.
5. If you live in a country like mine.. you can't send stuff to the states without writing up an fcc id. I can't seem to get that off of sean or anyone else. I finally called my friend at the customs and had him talk to the director of fedex and have him send someone to personally check my camera and report that its not harmful. I got the go for delivery now.
Now they wont deliver it because i cant just give em red's acct. number for shipment. red has to call fed ex.. and ask for a pick up delivery. fucked up system fedex has.

Note: mounts now come with torx screws.. i only heard one guy complain about stripping his torx screws... but generally.. its resolved.

7. when you strip screws.. you have to know that you cant just go and slap ure pl mount back on... you have to get the same screws with the same length as the old ones.

So.. basically.. if you have torx screws installed on your mount.. you have a good firm screw driver... and you are very super duper carefull.. you are good.
its pretty safe now.

It's not thaaaaat dangerous. but yeah.. you could ef up... ive got an older red.. so.. my screws all have rust on them now and they are mostly hexes... and accessories arent all black.. they are gray.. i have to use many washers so that my baseplate doesnt break. my red arm is like.. lol.. super rusted i cant even turn it around properly. we live in a very humid part of the world.

I think it would be useful if RED could certify where we might order the changing mounts service related to Birger or any other RED certified mounts.
