Here is our latest video. Shot with 2 red cameras.

The band wanted a projection screen behind the performance, so to give it a little unique edge we built a monochromatic set to house the projection screen.

We used nikkor lenses and a few 16mm zeiss lenses

This was cut in final cut and graded in color.

We'd love feedback - and feel free to ask questions!

Damn that looks like a ton of work in coordination between the performances and the screen. Good one.

Noah

it actually wasnt tough. our playback for audio and video was a macbook pro with final cut pro hooked up to a projector - so the projection screen b-roll footage was pre-cut and sync'd with the audio so that every take the same thing was on screen at the same point of the song. then in post we also had that same timeline of b-roll footage to cut in and out of that matched up exactly with the timecode of the song.

does that make sense? haha i'm horrible at explaining sometimes.

The editing kept it interesting.
How do you make 1 location work?
Editing.

I like that.
And the lenses work for me.
I like the rear projection screen Ive done that before just recently and liked its results.

So did you do this in a house or on a stage?

we built it in a sound stage. we needed a large space because the projector needed to be 25 feet away from the screen to throw the image properly.

I dug it! What was the budget (if you don't mind me asking)?

Great work. Great concept. Great editing.

Looks great. I like the set design.

What stage was this? In PA?
Could you explain the general lighting setup?
Are there any BTS shots?

Awesome guys.

Matt

we shot at smithfield street productions' sound stage in Pittsburgh, PA.

i attached two BTS photos of the lighting setup. Basically we used nothing over a 5k i believe. We had to do alot of careful setup/flagging so that the lights didn't interfere with the projection

we rigged poles above with lights and also lit from the top left and right.

Nice effect. This was a film projector, right? Not video? Can you tell me a bit about the lens used and light metering of the screen?

no it was a video projector. it was a 12000 lum projector with a rear projection screen

not sure what you mean about the light metering of the screen - we didnt have control over the brightness really. we just set it up and lit our set in a way that it would come in as little contact with the screen to avoid it dulling the image

How many days was your shoot and how much raw footage did you produce?

the shoot was 1 day (about 12 hours)

we shot about 120 gigs of footage so probably close to an hour or so...
