Will a future version of REDCINE have the three seperate color wheels for tweaking blacks, mids, and highlights seperately?

This would be a GREAT function in REDCINE for more control over the coloring.

Please try to incorporate this RED...thanks!

Norm

The functionality provided by the RED apps is for RAW conversion. The toolset is designed specifically for RAW conversion. The toolset is also designed to mirror the controls in camera.

The tools you talk about are designed for colouring video that already has colour baked into it. They're not appropriate for RAW conversion. They are best left to the colourist / DI app that you use.

I know it's for RAW conversion and that it's a mirror of what the camera controls are.

However, sometimes there isn't enough money on many shoots to bring it to a colorist and you have to do it yourself. Having controls beyond the function of the camera I feel is important as the coloring in-camera is limited in a way so having that option in post (IF it is needed and not necessary used everytime) is a great feature to have. I am only speaking from my honest POV. RED does not have to listen but I wanted to voice my opinion and still stand behind my suggestion strongly actually.

Seems to me that if you're doing this yourself, you're probably editing yourself as well. And every nonlinear editing software has color correction available. Not to mention things like Color (basically free when you buy Final Cut) and Color Finesse (basically free when you buy After Effects).

In my opinion, it's not Red's responsibility to provide its camera buyers with a complete post production suite for free.

No, I am not editing alot myself. I just prefer not to do any CC in the NLE for obvious reasons. Being able to use Crimson to reconnect to the 4K source files in Redcine is a nice feature and being able to color the blacks, mids, and highlights isn't asking for A LOT in my opinion. I'm not asking for extremely advanced features...just the basic color wheel set which pretty much every NLE has but every NLE can't color the original 4K r3d's in 4:4:4 10bit like Redcine can. I'm sure you can understand where I am coming from. Even if I had to pay for it to use Redcine to do coloring, that's no problem. I'm not asking for it to be free...I'm asking for it to be available. Not everyone can afford to go to Baselight, Pablo, Da Vinci, or Scratch systems for each and every project.

You are right but.... that would be soo sweet!!!!!!

I've always thought that Di aplications that use native RAW formats actually works appling metadata to decode side of the raw priocess.
Basically you are sayng that this aplications use an already decoded version of the RAW file for their color changes?

The operations we're talking about here are used post-raw. So you could use them direct on the raw, but then it's a two-stage process.

RAW file-->decode metadata-->decoded image (color space and gamma applied)--> color changes applied to the decoded image

like these?

Yup, an extra stage at the end, which would be made up of multiple blended LUTs and Matrices.

Thanks Graeme always learning a lot from your posts.

being able to color the blacks, mids, and highlights isn't asking for A LOT in my opinion.

I'm not a programmer but based on what Graeme said the introduction of these futures would need an addictional room inside REDCine that ads a second layer of metadata to the decoded informations coming out from the actual COLOR room.

A new room containing Color wheels or RGB curves would be a proper PRIMARY color room.
Adding this future to REDCine application could cause some problems with RED software partners.
